What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Installing shocks on the ‘99 today. While doing so, tested the front end for play:

It’s the tie rod joint on the pitman arm. Guess I need to replace the Pitman arm. Should I go Moog or AC Delco?

Upon further inspection,it was due to play in passenger side tie rod into the knuckle. It was not torqued down enough. When I jacked up the truck under the tie rod end, there was a washer thickness gap between the castle nut and the knuckle. Had to soak and heat the nut to get it off. Then I ran it down with the impact pretty solid. Once that was done, the play disappeared.

I've encountered this a couple of times on the pitman arm gear box nut after replacement. both on my 95 and on the dodge truck. drove for a couple of months and noticed slop in the steering. go to check with my son working the steering wheel. both times found that nut had some loose!!

Those starters sure are nice…

Glad you caught it with a no part fix on the steering. Look for deals now a new one, when they run loose like that a while the lifespan isn’t great because the chatter damages the surface.

Either Delco or moog- but both have a cheaper and higher quality line. The original ones were the higher quality one, basically they started making crappy ones to be price competitive with the chinese junk for people who price shop and dont mind replacing them every 5-6 years.
As always be cautious of cko- but you know where to find the real ones now.

After installing Bilstein 4600 shocks, I took it for a ride to LKQ Pik a Part in Santa Fe Springs. I was looking for and got 3 roof rack crossbars. Want to have 4 bars per roof rack on the two Suburbans. Could have gotten 4 but a Torx bolt stripped on a foward base. I would have had to mangle the side bar to get it out. I may go back.

They’ve raise the admission fee to $5 and definitely felt like their prices increased. I own the stock with a nice gain. LKQ is definitely a good value stock at this price point. They are the dominant player in the auto salvage industry.

I have the fuel system relay harness, with the air bleed switch, from Leroy Diesel.
Should I adapt that to the starter solenoid wire ?
I installed the Air Dog harness system so this lift pump harness is not needed.
Maybe if I dont use it on the Power Master starter someone in the forum might need one.

I have installed them on my pickups before and never added a relay. First one I got was a used so no instructions -never suspected them needing it.
Probably not a bad idea since they note it but I wonder if throwing an amp meter on there would show any higher draw.

Yeah, if it is a higher draw it could take out the contacts in the ignition switch sooner but I don’t remember ever changing one on anything I used them on.

If Leroys kit has 10awg feeding through it then yes it will work fine. Idk that I would spend $15 more to add the remote test switch for the starter, as the terminals are really easy to get to on the powermaster to use a real remote starter switch and that’s what they cost nowdays at harbor freight. I just bought one on sale to give to a buddies kid who is a newbie mechanic & paid $10. Having the wires long enough to use properly but temporarily hung up somehow where you detach them and have to secure them afterwards- nah. Just buy the tool for the same money and now you can use it on every rig you touch when needed.

Fuel filter changes happen often enough to warrant it. Need to crank the starter but not have the wire easily move around underneath or up top as needed for whatever you are diagnosing…meh

Since your truck is a 2000, I would look at the under hood fuse box and see if there is a crank relay. iirc the 96+ rigs have a relay built in.

I’m worried that it might have egged out the knuckle, but it seems to have cinched tight. I will keep a close watch on it. This is a GMT 800 conversion so I have to go back to threads on it to remember which tie rod I need.

I believe 96 and newer already have a starter relay. I don't know about 1995. I think it does also.

We know somebody with a 1995 Tahoe that Costello us for sure.
Guess I could get out the book and check the wire diagrams.
That should show if the start system has a relay.
I just dont have time at the moment, so, throughout the day I will be watching this thread to see if anyone comes in with the answer if the 96 and newer has a start system relay.

Got the salvage seat bottom mated up with the old seat back (had sear warmer) and the bottom seat warmer transferred to get my wife a much improved seat for her 2014 4Runner.
