Walbro / Racor install

Thanks for the advice, I assume its aluminum cast.

Another horizontal mount.

I wonder what the flow / hour of FTB max is.

Try rotating the pump Matt.....What do you have to lose?........And then you can rule that out.

Not to bash, but maybe the fittings from Leroy are faulty (manufacturer defect) and causing a slight restriction?

Stranger things have happened.

Two pumps mounted horizontaly and both low pressure.

This would not surprise me in the least. I've had a Walbro on my veggie side for about a year, and I've never really been that impressed with the pressure I'm getting. It's mounted horizontally.

I'll mount it vertical next time I do a veggie overhaul and see what happens.

Also, if you have Racor in front of the Walbro, yank that prefilter out of the body of the pump. That's just more restriction for you.

I will do extensive testing on all positions when I take it out when I recieve the springs from walbro. I'll be sure confirm or bust this myth!

Thanks for the idea one walbro screen. I sure will take it out when I have the pump out next.

Put the new spring in. Dramatically stiffer than the old one. Took longer to take the pictures....

Pressure is now 6-7psi idle, filled up a beer bottle in about 10 seconds or so at T-valve...

My battery charger I was using for testing on the bench wasn't supplying proper power, so I couldn't do any sort of 'bench' testing. Wasn't getting any amps outta the charger, must have some internal circuit shutoff (the charger)...

Anyhow, here are the pix.

The new springs are the ones with less coils. However its considerably stiffer.

Also Sent were directions, and a breakdown diagram of the walbro unit. However I have no scanner. If someone in MASS has a scanner and a fax, I can fax it to them. I think I was too cheap to put out of state on my Fax line #, so I can't even call out of state with the fax.

He gave me 2 springs, the one I used he said may give slightly more PSI than the other one, but it can rust if exposed to water. Since I have the Racor Water separator pre-walbro, I used that one.

I also removed the built in screen.

Installed spring right there. The original is above it. Considerably softer is the old one.

Matt, thanks for the pics and details, very helpful!

What's interesting to me is why Walbro would use such different springs in the same pump. I wonder if the first spring was not the correct one for the model.

I'm very happy to hear of their good customer service. For the guy to take the time to talk to you and mail out springs and directions is pretty impressive, more than I'd expect.

Most of all, I'm glad you have good pressure and volume numbers now. I really didn't like your situation before, volume seemed OK but not pressure, the whole reason to go with the Walbro over stock is its stronger pumping and ability to hold pressure under load (and in my case to pump veg oil reliably).

Makes me really wonder what springs others have...

As still mentioned earlier, my WALBRO is still QUIET AS A MOUSE.....

Its a fairly simple design, everything instide is magnetic, so the way the pump works is it bounces between the spring and the rubber stop (at the top). I really wish I had a scanner to scan the breakdown.

Top notch customer service. I first E-mailed him A week ago sunday.

He also gave me a business card with contact info/phone numebers.

According to instructions, Matt is using 98-3528 spring.

My question is why does it not come with it to begin with or should we specify what spring we want?

Matt,

Can you PM me the contact info? I'd like a stiffer spring to try to see if I can get better pressure.

Thanks.
