Walbro FRB-5 guys

Just alittle FYI
I use one to pump WVO at 180 degrees. Its been working great. Had to clean the screen one time, this is without a prefilter.
 
System primes a whole lot better when pump input is plumbed to fuel tank instead of IP.

Typically my pump has made about 3-4 clicks while wait to start light is on, no long chatter like OEM pump.

We use these Walbro pumps all the time in another project. I really recommend priming them with a vacuum pump first. They are suppose to be able to run dry for 4 hours. However I can tell you the won't. We have found that priming them first cuts way down on future failures.

What is the procedure to prime them?
 
Quick question. Why the Walbro pump and not the one from Kennedy? Is the Kennedy pump to high of pressure? Or not enough volume?
 
Kennedy's more $$$ and not self priming was my decision, my pump was used but with new warranty was $30, sold to a Cummins guy that wasn't happy, store owner could not sell as new, and offerd to me at new but used price with 90 day warranty, (no down side to that offer)

It was such a good match I started talking it up, right about same time the veggie guys started playing with it, so I don't know if their idea or mine as the 1st to use it on the 6.5.
 
Since most of the people working in the parts stores near me are Drop outs with no Automotivation I can't get them to find a part with out a make model and year... So what can I tell them I am looking for a Pump off of that will get me the correct one.

Can't help you there I don't think it's on any regular production vehicles, anybody that sells Walbro pumps should be able to go to their catalog and look it up, buy from Greg, the price is right, or go to Walbro site, or maybe a veggie fuel site and see who sells them in Canada
 
In a chain auto parts store best you can probably do is 1993 chevy 6.5TD and you would get the HO aftermarket version...Or the Dealer and get the HO (OEM) AC-Delco version.

Price is excellent from Greg... Can't beat it.... The fittings from Leroy (PMD Cable.com) make things easy for us non mechanics...

Someone soon is going to offer a LP - Filter Manager replacement line out os something flexible and overbuilt. (SS Perhaps?)

Not sure who, but someone will soon I hope!!! (Hint, Hint)

I can't be the only one interested in replacing my rotting fuel line with a nice bulletproof assembly kit.

I was talking about the screen in the Walbro.

I checked on making a ss line using the stock LP. I can not find the proper fitting in a crimp on.
If going to a Walbro or any other LP that has pipe threads I could make up a custom hose, just need to know what size fitting is needed for the pump side.
 
When making a line to go from the Walbro to the OEM filter, no special fittings needed. All anyone needs is to measure the length of the OE line and I can make the rest very easily. I would use Stainless cover PFT line if it were me.

Couple diffrent ways. Once you have it all plumbed in you could
1. temp disconnect the outlet on the pump then with compressed air blow into filler neck. You will need to use a balled up rag on the filler neck and then blow air through the rag. The rag acts like a seal. Use a catch pan below the pump outlet. As soon as fuel comes out you will be primed up.
2. Get a hand held vac pump from auto parts (tool loaner) hook it up to pump outlet or rubber line going to filter manager. Start pumping until LP is full.
3. Subsitute the vac pump and just suck on the line with your mouth. (seriously)
Once fuel has filled the pump/lines back to the tank you are set.

The Walbro has 1/4" pipe threads and will be a simple line to make up. or any other size pipe thread pump. The stock pump takes a special fitting.

The problem is you might want to mount yours alittle different Mine might be to long or short for your app. One could be made with extra length hose that you would have to coil and tie up.
