Upgrades to get better mileage and performance

I forgot that thread tells you how to check, but not what it means. The list of DTC codes (which I got to in the 6.5 tech library under the definitions is here.

And you are getting a DTC code of 12... (first number of flashes is first digit, pause, second digit, long pause), this would repeat 3 times before going to other codes. So it says.

DTC 12 just means diagnostic is working.

My 95 z71 has a worn out TCC lock up valve and bucks between 45-55. The problem is not near as noticeable now that i got a programmer. Your problem sounds awful similar. You can get the valve over bored and an over sized piston installed.

I still want to know how to get 24mpg out of a 6.5 dually. I don't want to call BS, but I've been on 6.5 forums since 2001 when I bought my truck, and I've never heard of anyone even coming close to that. The highest mpgs I've heard of approached 20-22, and that was with 2wd Suburbans that have better aerodynamics. With stock tires and no mods my 4wd never got over 14 mpg. And that was back before they ruined the fuel quality with all this ultra low sulfur diesel garbage. 4wd is good for a few less mpg, but 10+?
Very interesting.
And let's hear more about the twin turbo setup for $250.

I have to agree, I can't get more then 20mpg with my modded 1500 2wd...? Maybe it's all got to do with the right foot?

I did manage to eek 23mpg out of mine using the cruise last summer, but that was all on superslap with cruise on...

well i dont have a liscense so i dont have a heavy right foot, well sometimes dont. we have some crazy truck drivers and everyday drivers that dont like to check before they come over the dotted line so sometimes you have to punch it. i try to do the speed limit and use cruize control as much as possible

as for a twin turbo set up my buddy said i believe it is two stock gm 8 turbos and custom made headers. im trying to get pics plan on taking a trip to see him in a week or two if i dont have pics by then ill take them when i get there. he was gonna put them on his 6.5 but some how engine and truck caught fire

If he really made some custom headers and has a couple GM8s then get it for sure.

Also, fuel in IL always seemed to last longer for me. That went for gas or diesel. Less additives or they require cold storage or something. When I drive in CA, the fuel gets less MPG and theres lots of hills on the coast.

If I decided to get it what all will have to be done to my engine in the future after I fix all the bugs out I have right now

With Twins you will want to be sure your tranny is stout enough to hold up, better lift pump (ie: fass or air dog), turn up the Injection Pump. More air needs more fuel, more fuel creates more heat so water meth, innercooler, or both to keep egts in check. Then there is the issue of controlling them and keeping them fairly in synch with boost on each side. Making room, routing air filters, and piping will also be an issue. I would suggest relocating batteries and use those spaces for custom air intake.

do anyone know where the casting number is on the 6.5. my radaitor just blew. guy swears up and down the engine is from a 95, but the radiator is from a 93.

93 and 94, and maybe early 95 engines would all be 599 blocks. 95 blocks were typically 929 though.

The main difference just being 93 would have a mechanical fuel pump with no PCM and as many sensors, just a TCM for the 4L80E transmission. The 93 with a TCM would have an oil pump rpm sensor where the "distributor hole" is, and a mechanical wastegate actuator with no vacuum pump. Otherwise they would look similar.

if there is wires going to the pump is it mechanical i have a picture of it just cant figure out how to post it on here if someone help me PM me and ill email you a pic of it

There are a couple wires going to the mechanical pump, you can go to Stanadyne website or any vendor that sell or rebuilds DS4 and DB2 injection pumps for pictures. Google it. I looked through the stickies and couldnt readily find pictures of each. Could add DS4 and DB2 to the technical library.

they all look the same im so confuse i did make out a number on the pump coming back to OE Number 10137417 for the Throttle Position Sensor

The DB2 has a throttle position sensor, the DS4 does not. So it is mechanical. The DB2 also has a cable throttle linkage, compared to the DS4's PMD electronic throttle.

DS4 will also have a Black or Grey box on the driver side of it about the size of a deck of cards, that is the PMD. MOST people dont want these injections pumps due to electronic problems. If would take some work to retrofit a 95 DS4 and it computer into a 93, you most likely have a 95 block and heads dressed with 93 components.

My old 93 ECLB 2wd got close to 26mpg (25.something) speed limit was 55, on cruise, 373's, all flat highway TX to FL and back for 1800 miles.
I do dought a dually with 4.10 gears could do it.
