Tips, tricks and shortcuts for installing injectors

wrench flats are the flat spots on the socket where you put the wrench as seen in other photos no 30wt is not usually nd I buy mine at walmart for 2.19 quart I occasionally add stanadyne but the fuel stations up here are pretty serious about changing to #1 for winter and I've never had my truck gel up.

okey dokey - thank you sir!

I Love this place.. I'm about to tackle the injectors and find this information invaluable.. Thanks..

One other question ? I was looking at a complete kit on SWD&E and it comes with 8 Bosch injectors 8 copper washers ,return lines, oil out gasket, turbo mounting gasket and air cleaner gasket..
Do I really need those three last gaskets?? Seeing how if I follow your instructions I don't remove the turbo anyways??

i removed the turbo like td did and it was very helpful. but be ready to use heat to get thouse nuts to turn on the turbo pedstal. also if you take the turbo off close off the downpipe with a rag or towel. i dropped the ratchet for the glowplugs down there and it slid all the way to the soot trap. im lucky i got this flexible light that doubles as a magnet or else i would of been screwed

I knew that Soot trap was there for some reason!

Another possibly dumb question - but Chris recommended in his original post to install the passenger side injectors first and start up and let run for 1-2 minutes. Well...is that before or after installation of driver's side injectors?

i also would like to say do not forget anti seize - if there was none on there from the guy before you - i would think you would notice.

also was wondering what type of anti seize you guys would recommend on that ?

(other than - whatever i happen to have in the shop - copper based, aluminum based ?)

before.
it is to ensure you can still get it started and not have 8 lines full of air.

oh - so you don't remove the driver's side till you know the passenger side works? That makes more sense. I thought he was saying remove all of them, install the passenger side, and let run for 1-2 minutes, haha.

Also - I bought some almost new injectors that were rebuilt off of Ted Reminder - hauls for a living, and he did not have them pop tested. He said he was just going to install them, and I was planning on installing them tomorrow, but is there a MAJOR concern of doing this without getting them checked first?

From Ted, if he thought they were ok, I would be ok with that. He's been around a while and has a rep. for being a straight shooter.

He seemed like it - I had the opportunity to talk with him during my thermostat housing fiasco. Only reason I mentioned it, was because he had mentioned that the buyer may want to get them pop tested...so I was just checking. thanks again!

well if you paid attention here that decision might only cost you 4 hours back out and back in :) he mentioned it for a reason.....

Like you said: "Only reason I mentioned it, was because he had mentioned that the buyer may want to get them pop tested."

Russian proverb, "Trust but verify." Ted's advice seems to be to verify.

Testing before hand, at the worst, will confirm you have a good set. One bad injector squirting instead of spraying will cost you a piston.
