Tips, tricks and shortcuts for installing injectors

i found a 30m deep well for $5.99 at a discount tool store they also have alot of specialty mech tools for cheap got to remember that place

The deep well 30mm socket will not allow the ease of use that the OTC does due to its hex head....

I swapped two sets with a GreatNeck 30mm deep well socket from AZ. Has plenty of clearance for the nipples and I didn't need to use anything but a 1/2 ratchet and pull handle/breaker bar. If you have a breaker bar, it's swivel head will accomplish the same thing as using a wrench on a hex head socket....though it's probably a little slower.

The first set took me about 4 hours total. The second set was about 2 hr. 45 minutes....and I removed the turbo both times...which (now that I pulled it at least 6 times) is really easy.

What size is the copper crush washer? I was rooting through a small parts rack behind the counter at Autozone and saw they had some copper washers in with all the hose fittings I was looking for. Looked let sets of 8 in each plastic bag. And they were only a few bucks.

9. Install the caps on injectors #7 and #8 with a zip tie before installing them. If you are careful, you can wiggle the injector into the socket with the cap installed without tearing the cap. Trust me.

What am I missing here? I don't understand what you mean by this

The injectors have return lines, going from one injector to the
next. On the rear injector on each side, one of the return ports
is not used, there is a little cap and clamp that goes on them.
Install this cap and clamp before you install the injector, it's
very hard to get to afterwards.

For those without a 30mm deep socket, 1 3/16" works fine.

For those who can do it with turbo mounted? My hat is off to you. Seriously. I tried. Life suddenly seemed better when the turbo came off.

I would add down pipe must be moved to reach #6 glow plug. In fact, Mine had to come OFF because the stupid wire would not come off the old glow plug.

Question- my turbo did NOT have a flange gasket. Is this common??

No turbo gasket on my '95 either. Pulled the wire to the #6 glow and it broke at the female fitting. Had to repair that. We pulled the turbo. Also used a 30mm deep from AZ ($15) which fits over the return line nipples. Took longer than 2 hours. More like 4 to 5, but this was the first time.

I cheat. People get sort of tunnel vision and have the mindset that the cap has to go on the backside of the last inj. It doesn't matter so what i do is put the hose on the backside of the last inj and put the cap on the easy side of it.

I pretty much did mine the same way as you,and only took 2 1/2 hours and I thought that was long.

It was my first time thou and hopefully won't have to do it for again for a couple of years.

DS took 45 min.

PS 1 1/2 because I kept looking for a way to save time and ended up wasting time looking for tools that didn't save me time.

It was a tight fit and slow but steady job.

Anybody used the 33mm axle socket from AZ? I am trying to get the socket local, although I will order it if I have to.

And Rob, did you have a socket with the 7/8 wrench head for the passenger side? The axkle socket does not have the wrench head, so if needed, I would have to grind it in.

30, 33... whatever it takes :) slip of the finger.

The az only had an axle socket, which seemed thicker wall. Trying to decide if I should order the OTC socket ($40). Unless one of you wants to drop me one in an envelope!

thanks dan... I appreciate that part number. I love my local napa! I will try it out. Hopefully it fits good on the #8, as I have rear heat.
