The "restification" of a 98 6.5 TD...

All I've got for pictures right now. Folded and in the support mount I built:

That's the middle of the roof in width and length and about 10 inches forward of the center of the whole truck.

The mount is just a cheapy for now:

Good enough for barefoot. I'll probably eventually order a Breedlove fold over mount when I start to run some power through it.

It'll be about a year or so before I even get to installing my little TS DX250 Amp. I'm getting ready to move across the continent and I just don't have any more time to give it right now.

The roof panel moves around a bit more than I wanted behind the mount. The mount is right up against an internal support beam, but the back half of the beam is pulled away from the roof skin. I plan to shim it and reapply the panel adhesive for now. I might switch to a bigger mount later, but I just don't have the cash for it right now.....

The CB power and ground goes directly out to the drivers side batt terminals. The Dist block also goes to the drivers batt, but they only share the terminal point. I ran the 4 gauge for the distr block because I already had the electrical apart underhood and was drilling pass through holes in the firewall. Was easy to drill, grommet and run the wire for one more hole at the time.

The CB has it's own separate Hella 40A relay out under the hood.

One thing I have to do is install a fuse for the CB power feed up next to the batt, the glass fuse down by the radio doesn't do much if there's a short underhood.

Powered up my cobra 29 WX NW BT today for the first time......pretty little thing with the blue back lighting and all...

I also ordered up a Uniden Bearcat esp20 20W external speaker to mount in my overhead console, seeing as my Cobra 29 internal speaker in now buried face down in the carpet (hehheh, face down in the carpet, hehheh)....

I like the folding mount, but have never cared for antennas on the roof. I understand why though. Sounds like you at least have everything functional at least.

Yup, roof mounts are not be the prettiest place to put 'em and makes it look like a big "RC" car sometimes.

But it does give you everything the radio is capable of with darn near 1:1 SWR......

Crap.

Passenger side carpet padding and all the rear of the ext cab is SOAKED......guess I know what the smell was now.

Pulled the interior out (most was out for the CB install anyways) and hung the carpet up int he garage. Dripping away as we speak.

Fortunately (?) it started raining.

Now to find the leak.

Crap again.

Top of the windshield.

Now, do I try and seal it up or replace my stone chipped and cracked (there's a gooder on the passenger side) glass?

Hmmm.....I may have just lost my 4 inch exhaust to a windshield replacement.......

Hmmm, apparently you can fix a windshield leak with silicone.

I put a nice blob in a syringe and squirted it into the windshield channel. It's been raining for a couple days now, no water in the cab.

I've got the carpet out, so water shows up right away as a drip.

Once the carpet goes back in, I'm back to looking for an exhaust.

I'll probably replace the glass at the end of the year.

Or maybe, I'll get it changed while I'm in the states. Much cheaper there....

My windshield leaks also. As your sitting in the drivers seat and going 65mph down the road you feel little droplets hitting you. They are coming from the bottom seal of the windshield. Next time the cowl comes off im going to have to silicone it also

Few more things done today.

Finished installing the new touch screen. This one is much brighter and sharper than the original. Just have to hook up the rear cam now.

Ran the mic for the handsfree blutooth on my cb. It pairs with the iPhone and works just like a handsfree speaker phone. Voice dialing and all the rest of the goodies.

Finished up with installing the controller in the lower console for the devil's own water injection kit.

All this and still had time to drywall the garage

;)

Everyone love pics!

I still haven't figured out where to hang the mic. I've got a couple ideas, but I have to do some test fits first.

The hole in the right lower corner is where I was originally put the devil's own controller. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

But once in the truck, I couldn't see the indicator lights of adjust the injection setting with seat in the driving position.

So, it got moved to the gauge mounting location.

I've only got room for 3 gauges now, instead of the original 4. No problem, I didn't know what I was going to even put in the 4th location anyways.

The Cb is also functional now. Bluetooths the iphone great! People can't even tell I'm not using the phone for sound quality.

With roof mounted antenna, I'm getting about 1.1:1 SWR's.

Overall, a big success!

:)

Looks great BJ. If mine wasn't a manual I wouldn't mind something different.

No problem there friend.

Instead of an Ipod holder and storage pocket, you simply make an opening for the stick and mount your accessories in the space remaining.

Easy enough to do, you just have to get your "mock up buck" correct.....

Not much space infront of the shiftboot/4wd. I couldn't fit a CB infront of it if I wanted, so the space it more of less useless to me I guess. I could do gauges there but I was planning a pillar so they could easily be seen.

Ah, you're pretty much "consoled out" down there with the center console and manual 4x4 shift.

You would still be able to do one, but the center would probably have to come out and go full on custom job right up to the dash.

That's more work than I would want to do right now....

You can get a CB that's small enough to slip into the empty cubby if you want ed though...

:)

I've thought about a small CB in the cubby, or an all in one unit. I originally thought I'd use that cubby more but really I don't, so it's an option.

Or just mount it inside the main console........

Looks great BJ. This thread is always a treat. Thats one lucky truck you have there!

Welp, couldn't stand it any more.

Bought a set of firestone airbags today to install on the old girl.

It's moving more and more towards tow rig territory.....

Next up:

12 Valve swap and a solid axle front!
