The "restification" of a 98 6.5 TD...

I noticed your 7-pole RV connector installed in place of the left license plate lamp.

I'd like to do the same to mine.

Can you tell me how difficult the task was?

Thanks.
Mike

The easy way ($) is to go to an auto supply and buy a plug and play adapter, it goes in where the quick coupler for the box wiring is. Some aren't too expensive.

The other way is to buy some 7 wire sheathed cable and solder in your connections.

Remove the license plate light, drill the bumper oversize for the plug (metal hole saw), install plug, wire accordingly.

:)

Getting the hole right is a PITA and the hardest part...

easiest way to get a hole saw to line up where you want it to is to drill a scrap piece of wood metal or whatever and clamp it in the position you want

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions about mounting the trailer connector. (apologies for the minor hijack)

I've been following this thread on your changes for some time. (I've been thinking of using an Auber gauge to monitor fuel pressure.)
Looking forward to see how things turn out with your console...

Thanks for posting the results.

That's what I'll be doing, watch this space for more to come......:)

No problem. Thanks for following along!

Well, I was putting the monitor back together into the console bezel today.

Unfortunately, my hand slipped and I ended up poking a tool through one of the ribbon cables.

Ugh.

Well I could repair the ribbon cable easily enough, but i was already looking for an excuse for a better monitor.

My monitor is an EBY701 built by Lilliput, circa 2005. It's a dependable little thing and has survived 3 custom installs, but it's a bit scratched up now, and the 800x600 mode crapped out a while ago leaving me having to struggle in finding a video card that will actually display it's native 800x480.

Now the nice thing is, Lilliput still makes the EBY701 but it's been upgraded several times.

LED backlight vs CFL, improved touch screen, Auto power on, auto rear cam switching, higher quality panel, etc....

So I pulled the trigger on a new one for 160 bucks.

A little pricey, but worth it for a decent 7 inch touchscreen that will drop right into the bezel I've already built into my console.

Problem is now that I've got the new monitor ordered, I find myself cruising the web for a mini-itx board to build another carputer for the truck.

The purchase also means I have to push off buying my gauges for fuel pressure and trans temp a couple months.

Oy vey, it just never stops!

I've got a disease....

;)

Nice looking work. Very clean installs, thats what i strive for. cant wait to get back to work on my 6.5. Been working on my Jeep G/C.

Finally into paint:

Goes back into the truck tomorrow and pics will follow.

All that's left is to wait for the new screen (the old one is in for now), final wiring for the screen/camera/inverter and the digital gauges (eventually).

Wow! Looks clean! You could run Car Code's dash setup screen there and have 5 gauges of your choice for monitoring.... Fuel temps.,.. tranny... IAT....

This is one of my favorite threads by far. Thanks for sharing!

Yup, I could run car code.

But, I intend to run another program I already have for a virtual dashboard:

http://www.palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/windows/index.php

Fully customizable for whatever PID I want to display or that the truck supports. I also have the capability to make the dashboard whatever I want. Sliders, dials, digital, black, red, blue, etc....

The truck will have it's own pc eventually so all PC based programs are "on the table". I'm no stranger to it. Here's My 300M:

Car code is OK for initiating tests and whatnot, but there are much better options out there for real time monitoring.

Thanks for the "kudos" again Matt.
