The optimiser I didn't know I had

Getting wraped up

:D Getting close to done putting this one together. Got the vacpump blasted and painted, Driver's side exhaust manifold broken bolts out ,blasted and painted, starter sanded, new solonoid and painted, alternater taken apart, sanded and painted, motor mounts taken apart, blasted and painted.
The motor mounts were taken apart because I'll have to reuse the clamshells with the new energy suspension polyurethane inserts. For what the inserts cost they SHOULD come with new clamshells[$25 + shipping each:eek:]
Left to do:Fab new HD starter front brace to clear 2nd frost plug heater, Prime oiling system, and install fittings and hoses for oil cooler[when they get here]

The tensioner follows the alternator to the other side. Thats why you cant interchange tensioners from early to later years, they go the opposite way.

I see vac pump.....No TM?

Thats a early engine?....(Left side alt) whats between the alt and the single stat housing?
Yep, no tm. A computer is smarter than a spring and gets better mpg.
The accessory drive is 94-95. 96+ uses a different a/c pump and different alternater. The engine is going in a 95 truck. The belt tensioner is a dayco no slack. They are a different design from OEM and made in usa.

I would tend to believe that the computer controller may give better mileage than a TM, however I don't have any data to support that.

I do have some data to support that there is significant mileage improvement by removing the vacumm pump, adding an A-Team Turbo and a Kennedy Diesel fuel mileage tune.

By the way, here is another photo of a '95 vintage accessory drive arrangement. Note that I've got the dual stats installed as well. http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/picture.php?albumid=622&pictureid=5603 or here is the passenger side of what you don't see there... http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/album.php?albumid=623&pictureid=5614

I wonder how much more horsepower a 9 blade fan costs in fuel mileage? I suspect if it moves more air and keeps things cooler, it wouldn't have to go into high speed mode as often. My mileage records didn't show any measureable change when I added high flow water pump, dual stats and 9 blade steel fan.

Again, that engine of yours looks great... the only thing better than a painted vac pump would be a vac pump on the scrap iron pile (lol).

Both heath and kennedy say the vacume system works better than a turbomaster.:iagree: The downfall is keeping everything working. I've never had a vacume pump fail ,only the boost solonoid. The vacume system with a good chip will give instant boost on demand:thumbsup: and will back off boost and fuel if you don't need it. The factory programing was horrible to say the least. It backed out of boost and fuel at exactly the wrong time:mad2::mad2::mad2: I just wish the genuis's at gm would have included exhaust temp as a input:confused::mad2:

I never had a boost solenoid fail, but had 3 vac pumps bugger up:smile5:

Finished up and ready to install

I got the housing and actuator for my gm8 turbo[a gm5 has the same compressor housing and actuator]. Also got the oil cooler kit fro leroy at pmd cable with the new 45 degree swivel fittings:thumbsup: I also got a bracket for the oil cooler lines and a heavy duty starter brace for 2nd heater fabbed. I primed the oiling system before putting the oil cooler lines on. I ran the primer for over 5 minites while rotating the crankshaft to be shure everything got filled with oil. I'll put the primer in again when I have it ready to start, in the truck, to fill the cooler and hoses:thumbsup: Should be going in the truck in june:eek::D

I have a 4000 sq ft storage yard, but it's outdoors.....Need indoor space, even a 1 car garage, (minus the car) would be fine.

That's only half the shed in the pics, It's a 40 x 60. I wish it were bigger like 40 x 120:thumbsup:
