Stall - No Start

I think Chris is right. I always pull them apart just for diagnosing even if I know they are complete loss, but I do things different than most. Evidenced by used to have a “trophy shelf” of what went wrong parts collection unitl I moved into my last house with no room to even keep all my tools. Nothing like handing someone a U shaped rod attached to an egg shaped piston!

Who know's what my son was trying to do when it failed. He was on a road with speed bumps when it happened, because I went to tow him home.

Hear Hear, the son might have been Hot rodding a little like we have all done at an early age.....:eek:

In my teens I pushed equipment to the max, I was on the ragged edge, thank the Lord I survived, knock on wood I made it without a scratch. No, I swear I never hauled any moonshine on the back roads, I was just a foolish teenager having some fun.

After buying sets of tires I finally settled down some....

In the long run I suppose it helped us with car control and such....:)

now comes the search. I am going to call teds in the morning to see what they have. I think I asked this before are the heads the same on the center mount turbo as they are on the trucks?

Sometimes a fairly low mileage engine can be found fairly reasonably in a used vehicle, You never know how the vehicle has been taken care of. If they have maintenance records it's plus. If I look at a vehicle and the fluids aren't topped off and it is in need of being serviced, I pass

Did you find the bolt for the busted connecting rod in the pan? What exactly is the history of this engine as it looks fresh rebuilt or new?

Keep in mind the oil cooler is trash now as it's full of debris from the engine failure.

I would have the turbo rebuilt as well in case it ate anything (bearings and or wheels). Also in case it was the source of oil that ran this engine away.

I owned a 6.2 when I was 16. Kid's innocent. :woot:

The best is get the correct heads.
Or you need to do some creative plumbing to use the van intake.

I did the reverse- i have truck heads and used a van intake. I made studs that bent to make the different angle. I also had to modify the intake at 2 locations by welding up the aluminum holes and redrilled- But it works no problem.

I haven’t looked at the possibility of truck intake on van heads, but when i can (might be a couple days) take pics and see if it looks possible if you need to.

Yes I did find the nut that broke off. It was a rebuilt with less than 10k on it. I bought it with 5k on the rebuilt. The Previous owner had all the paperwork on the rebuilt. He bough it at Pepboys in 2012 IIRC. It was an older guy. He did installation himself.

Oh and I found out my son did doughnuts in it when it was raining. Not sure how in a dually. Even wet that is a big long truck to do doughnuts in.

I got lucky. There is a towing company here that just started doing dismantling in December and they have 3 6.5's. They are all complete vehicles not wrecked. They had 218k, 250k, and 254k. The 218k & 254k were 95's and the 250k was a 97. The 97 was a repo from the CHP and was owned by a kid, so I said no. The other 2 were fleet vehicles and well maintained. I went with the one with 254k because the one with 218K had rats nests inside the engine bay and had been sitting much longer than the other one. I have seen were rats have climbed up into exhaust pipes all the way up to the motor and made a mess of things. didn't want to deal with that. Plus the guy I was dealing with knew the mechanic for the one I got. They were all the same price. $995.

Good deal on the engine

Your boy was Pedal to the metal.

Story time :)
My mama and daddy bought a 4x4 Jeep Cherokee brand new in 97 with the 318 in it. They let me drive it one night  just a few months after getting it. I didn’t have my license very long. Since it was 4 wheel drive all the time I wanted to see if I could cut doughnuts in a parking lot. It did it but I blew it up. Me and 2 of my buddies pushed it down the road away from the black marks and I called daddy. The shop said the oil pump went out and changed it under factory warranty. I told them probably 2 years ago what really happened.

Story time over.

funny!

Oh yeah, rain. Kid's got more talent at breaking things than I do. We don't get that much out here and then when we do it's hydro lock from crossing flooded washes...

Grab the engine oil cooler off the truck. If they have the K47 air filter boxes with duct to the turbo get them too as members here will buy them from you.

I thought the K47 filter boxes were too restrictive?
