Road Trip !!

The mellow deep sound and REAL nice acceleration of Paul's truck will make a believer of any 6.5 hater.

It was a very nice mini-GTG. I got to drive Will's HMWWV and it was great to be in one that actually accelerated, unlike the ones I drove on active duty. It was nice to see the Dodge done too. Les' dad just looked tired and Les had a satisfied "it's over" smile on his face when the shop was done with the alignment. I even had mine done while there as it has been pulling a bit of late. Sho-nuff, camber was out by more than 'a bit.'

Gave us more time to stand around and B.S. anyway which was great.

Got home safe with all precious cargo intact and no driving awards from any of the LEO's. I saw a lot of them out on the road in NV, AZ and UT. Hmmm.

Safe flight home Les. Will, good luck with the next contract. All, you're welcome here anytime.

How's the weather?

So how backwoods did you have to get with the axle tube seal?

...and is that a Buick Grand National out Will's passenger window?

Will's HMMWV is righteous and cool. Do those two words deserve the same sentence?
 
It was -3 when I got home +19 as I type this. Kinda looks like it could be a GN but that's the first I noticed it. Tranny shop was next door with quite a few cars coming and going. Axel tube seal was a royal PIA the worst was it had a tapered side to it to help get the axle in without damaging the seal. The problem was that tapered part started into the tube at exactly the same time as the body of the seal, any slight twist made it bump up against the tube and hit the shoulder of the tube. I used one of my adapters out of my ball joint kit as it fit in between the metal shoulder of the sleeve and the lip then I made an offset attachment out of some washers to fit a slide hammer my brother had and managed to get it started. Then I took a 3" holesaw and cut a piece of wood out of a piece of multiple layer 3/4" plywood my brother had laying around, then enlarged the center hole to 1/2" and got a piece of allthread and nuts/washers on both ends and suck it into place. By far and away the worst was just getting it started fought it for several hours. I was beginning to think it was going to win. :)
 
Forgot to mention Will brought me a rectangular form stake that I cut and drilled to make a bar across the end of the slide hammer to get it tapped into position. the washer bit was from an earlier failed attempt.

That is a Grand National in the background. It is owned by a guy that works in a tranny shop next door to the alignment shop we were at. The owner is good friends with a guy that used to own a different tranny shop in town that had the worlds quickest grand national for some time. Both were customers of mine when I was a Mac Tool guy.
 
Thought I'd resurrect this thread as I'm getting ready to head out in a couple of days. Going to my wife's home town in southern Utah.
