Resetting injector pop pressure

Mine were set at 2300 & it cackles but it's smooth as a whistle, MPG seems a tad improved along with performance.

I am having cold 1st start of the day issues but that was present before the injector replacement...still hunting that down.

I would think the could be changed out to Bosch-Germany nozzles. Nice pics. The ones I scrapped only said "097" and nothing else. That could be the engineering spec number.
Can you post a picture of a 'quality german nozzle' please? I ask because the ones in my truck had bosch logo stampings with the part numbers. The 'genuine rebuilt' injectors I had picked up 5000 miles earlier only had a bosch logo and were missing the details and on the nozzles. Was told these might have been suspect as nock-offs so I replaced them with the known good set in there now.
As it was explained, with the cost of the genuine parts, dissassembly, reassembly testing and the cost of labor, and all esle that goes into the rebuilding of the injectors along with profit margins, the price I paid ($240) was probably one of those 'too good to be true' issues. Anyway, sorry for the long windedness, my intent was to help those of us who could use a little bit more edumakation on the subject understand what it is we are looking for in these parts.
Thanks.

I advanced the timing a little and got a little rattly kakcle but not too much...not going to kill my engine is it? I talked to the supplier that I got my new injectors from a year ago and was told they are pop tested at 1700 psi (marine injectors!!!) I am thinking I got dooped, wish I would have known of this forum back then!!!!

I'll have to see just how good I am with the super macro on my camera. I didn't get all that good of pics of the delphi's in the beginning of this thread. Getting the light right is really tough. I'll give it a whirl.

I wouldn't go any more than the width of 2 pencil lines to the driver's side of the mark.
I think you may have got dooped. Let me guess, they told you they would add at least 40 horsepower?

Bosch- Germany nozzle pics

My fancy camera was out smarting me tonight. I couldn't get a very good focus. Then the memory card was full. I'll have to get more memory cards tomorrow. I'll try again for better pics. I'll have to read the camera book some more also. The 8 pack they came inIMG_1710_5.JPGThe made in Germany IMG_1717_1.JPG The nozzle as it comes out of the box. It has a soft plasticy kind of coating to protect it from damage and moistureIMG_1719_1.JPG Hopefully be able to get a pic tomorrow of the lazer etched markings and numbers on it

The low pop pressure is for non-turbo trucks. This is because they do not produce nearly the same cylinder pressures during injection.

To have that low pop on a turbo truck, I would think the tips would get burned faster.

The reason people think that the lower pop puts out more fuel is because thats what they see on the pop tester. The actual IP plungers goes way past the pop pressure. It may hit 6000psi in the fuel line right after the pop pressure is reached. This is why it still gets sprayed against 2000psi cylinder pressures, although how nicely that spray is can depend on the intial pop. As the pressure increases, flow does too, which a pop tester cannot mimic. A pop tester will also not sustain pressure in the same manner as the IP.

I know the frustration and I appreciate the efforts and expense of the memory cards. Just from looking, is there anything more than just the logo lazer etched on them? I'll pull one of mine later next week and open it up and compare to one of the suspect units. I'm headed out of town the rest of the week, have family coming in this weekend and a son going in to the army and and and.... So, I'll be relegating the truck projects/experiments on hold for a few days as priorities are what they are.

Again, thanks for your help in solving this little puzzler.

Paul

If i can't get a decent pic of the numbers and logos I'll post them also. I don't erase memory cards. They saved my pics when both computers and the backup external hard drive all died within 2 weeks of each other. They are cheap for this camera. $8 for a 4gig card. It will hold close to 1000 pictures.

why did everything die?

Both computers had the hard drive fail completely/wore out? The external drive just wouldn't work at all. I lost tons of stuff. The worst was all the great[bookmarks] links to diesel parts sites and other related stuff that had taken many hours to find and accumulate.

I hate that! My better laptop has EFIlive on it from by days of playing with ls series engines and has tuning files saved to it but the computer will barely turn on and needs wiped clean. None of the files will save to memory or anything. An I have all sorts of stuff save to my favorites.

Hey Guys,

I had purchased a set of so called marine injectors when I first purchased my truck about five years ago from a less than reputable internet dealer and what I got was a mixed bag of injectors. After they failed terribly I proceeded to take them apart and this is what I found. Some were German made and quite nice and the others were made in India and are garbage. I just thought I'd share some photos of them side by side and you can really tell the difference. You can see the difference in the pintles.

If you click on the pics you should be able to see them in full size. Oh and let me rephrase, they are marine injectors it's just that the India ones were junk and I had no problems with the German ones which are the ones that are marked Medallion.

Was this internet supplier located in the North East? New York by any chance???? It is where I picked my set up- first and last set!!!!!!!!!! I have to take them to a diesel shop to be rebuilt (stanadyne Shop). Just wish I would have known of this forum before I made the purchase. I have learned SOOOO much from this forum in the last 8 months.

They are just your basic standard injector body with the marine nozzles installed in them, like the ones that you showed minus the orange band. I'm not sure but I think that all the bodies are all the same. I don't remember how they came packaged but they were not in toilet or paper towel rolls and I didn't get them from anyone in NY state. Like I said I got them a long time ago and they were terrible. i ended up going to my local diesel shop, MWFI, they are right down the street from me and have had no problems. At the time I went with the stock injectors and they now have about 50,000 miles on them. When I first did these I was really new to the 6.5 world and figured I could do the marine injectors at a later time, I'm happy I did. When it's time to replace these I'll go with the marine injectors. I kind of gave up on them till I came across this thread, now that I know you can find good quality German nozzles I'll be more inclined to do it again. Of course I'll have to invest in a pop tester and such as I'm the kind of guy that doesn't let anyone work on my stuff, only on the rare occasion when I can't, as I can't seem to to fork over my hard earned cash for something that I am quite capable of doing myself.
