Replacing Oil Pan

Success!!! No leak, and my underside never looked so nice.

It seems odd to walk away and not see a shiny spot underneath!!!

I did have a scare. Filled with oil, fired up and no oil pressure! I never dropped the filter, so i figured it would be there.. Waited a few secs, turned it off. Tried again. About 10 secs and turned off.

Now I'm thinking did I damage the oil pump somehow?!?!?! Started planning my day tomorrow to drop it again....

Fired it up again to listen to engine to see if it sounded dry and was going to test it with a gauge... Gave it a tap of fuel and she got her oil pressure! Whew.

Also that new steering stabalizer bar made a HUGE driveablitly smooth difference.

A lot of work, a lot of time... I also stop and clean / paint along the way too though. She's lookin really nice 'down there' now... Especially with fresh cleanup / paint and a shiny new centerpiece! (oil pan).

thats good it has oil pressure.it was the same thing with me when i changed my oil. scared me at first when i had no pressure than it suddenly got it

I always assumed that was due to the oil filter filling up... I never took the oil filter off for pan swap.. This was much longer wait than my normal oil change wait.

Oil pressure is a good thing!

I know.... Its a real shame that someone stole my d-camera.... IT does stink. If my truck ever rolls over, it may look better upside down :)

Next up is finding any and all small leaks, so far nothing. I wrapped the seepy cooler lines and tightened a flare fitting on a tranny line. But I suspect that one of the flare fittings is still leaking, as it looked damp.

Then gonna buy a gallon of gloss black 'frame paint' that is supposed to chemically change rust, and paint all in one. Like 70 bux a gallon at carquest. Forgot the name.

Its called por-15[/B

Your oilpump and pickup where drained completely by the day long oilpan swap.,causing the long wait in oil press, cause it had trouble priming.

:iagree:

On a gas engine to fix this you would fix this by pulling the coil wire and crank the engine till you see some oil pressure on the gauge. I am not sure what you would pull on a diesel?

Matt, i pulled my truck in the garage yesturday because the 351w is sitting in it, ive been driving the oil stink car the past few days (cuz of the engine in the truck) and i have about a 2' long puddle of oil under there. HOLY SH!T, i didnt think it was that bad yet... SO i have to get my butt in gear on the new 6.5.... I will get you a pic sometime.....

Hopefully this thread can save someone else's 6.5 10-20 seconds of run time separated by 4 starts without oil... Mine took it like a champ. I waited the normal oil change wait .. few seconds, then turned it off to think. Hit 1300 high idle for a second and turned it off, then engine off. Thought some more :). Did it again and tapped the throttle to maybe 1500 rpm. at the same time I did that pressure restored.

Should have used that ol' engine additive that you could take the oilpan off, valve covers off, and dump sand on it with it still revving high. Forgot the name :)

I think its called "power up",i know a couple of guys that fried an engine with it,aparently the crud it loosens plugs the filter, then crudded oil bypasses to the brgs and took the crank brgs out:eek:

Here is a pic of where i parked my truck for one day!!!! The puddle is over 2 feet long.....

YOu had me beat!!! I havn't had even one drop spit to the ground since the operation. I do have my oil cooler lines wrapped up to catch the drip though.... It feels really good. I hold more respect to the truck now.
