Replacement Air Filter Options

Guys I bought one of these that was supposed to have came off of a 97 1 ton and it came today in the mail. I went to rielly's to get a filter for it and there are 2 filters, the one that cross references to the ACDelco part number listed on the box is a WIX46440 and is smaller than the heavy duty one 46441. Also when I got home I looked on Orielly's website and the one that fits this box says "except high capacity air cleaner K47". So it looks to me like this is not the K47 cleaner. I will round up my camera and put up some pictures shortly.

Here is a picture of what they sent me. After doing some searching I believe this is the light duty box and from what I've read some guys force the heavy duty filter in this box. Also I didn't know what that tube coming out of the front was for?

That is the K47 air box we have been talking about. That's the one you WANT.

Also, the tube coming off the intake going to the right is the "silencer". Supposedly, its supposed to screw with the intake charge air flow pre turbo to avoid getting the whistle we all know and love :mad2:

I figured I would find a piece of PVC to plug that hole up where that pipe comes in, also there is a restriction indicator on there that is broken, anybody know where to get one of those? It looks like my factory hose from the turbo to my old airbox will work so I may just use it instead of plugging that hole and finding the restriction indicator?

On mine it lists both filter numbers one for normal conditions one for dusty

On the box it lists them? On this box it only lists the A1300C part number that crosses to the light duty filter. Does the bigger filter fit comfortably in your box or is it tight closing the box?

Are you sure it doesn't list the other filter for dusty conditions? When I look at your pics it looks like it has the same amount of writing on the box in the same area.

I was looking at a sticker on the back of the box and it said replace with A1300C but now that you mention it on the top it says for severe dust use
A1306C which cross references to the heavy duty filter. I'm gonna take the whole box down there and try to put that bigger filter min there and get it closed, sounds like it should work. Thanks AK for being observant.

I'm gonna go to town and get the bigger filter and see if I can find a 3 inch elbow so I can use my old hose from the turbo and not have to plug anything up. the new hose is smaller than the old one.

Good score, Bob. I recommend the light-duty filter; it flows better, and unless you're in severe dust conditions, you probably won't need the HD filter.

You might also want to get rid of that turbo muffler on the front of the hose leading to the turbo inlet... TD used a frost plug and some RTV on his, Eddzed pulled the muffler out, cut it off at the far end just before the tab, and put it back in with a hose clamp and some RTV.

I was just gonna put a short piece of 1 1/4 PVC pipe with a cap on it where that muffler/silencer plugged in and do away with the whole thing.

HighSierra where did you get that sewer pipe fitting? All I could find was a schedule 40 90. On one end it fit my stock turbo hose perfect at 4" OD but the other end was only 3 & 1/2" OD and needed to be about 3 & 3/4" OD to fit tight in the filter. I went ahead and installed the new air cleaner with the turbo hose that came with it but would like to find the less restrictive 90 and use my stock hose.

Guys thanks for recommending http://www.car-part.com/. That's where I got the new airbox $75 shipped, it came from Gravely Auto Parts in Axton Va., ordered it on monday afternoon and UPS would have had it here by wednesday except for the snow on my driveway. Overall I'm satisfied with the part, it didn't have the latches on the box but I transferred those from my old box and there was a restriction indicator that tells when to change the filter that was broken so I just put a nylon 1/2 inch barbed plug in there.

I would just recommend to anybody ordering one to tell the salvage yard that you need everything from the fender well to the turbo. The reason I say that is because there wasn't a bracket on the bottom of this box and mine didn't match up from the old one. For this I just snapped it into the fender on the intake end and it was sitting right on the fender well so I drilled a new hole through the box and bolted it right to the fender well using one of the old holes in the fender well.

Below is a picture of the plugs I used for where the muffler was and where the restriction indicator was. For the muffler I just used a short piece of 1 & 1/4 inch PVC with a cap and hose clamped it, also a couple shots of black spray paint to tone down the white fitting.

Here is a picture of the top of the box in case someone wants to describe it to the junkyard to make sure they are getting the right one.

I have Amsoil Nanofiber air filters available for both boxes.

Wrecker, for only $60 for either filter I'm sold. Can you tell us the difference between the two available for this box? I've read alot about those filters and they're supposed to be the best and made by Donaldson, iirc?

Difference between the two is size, Turbine Doc has both as he has both boxes in different rigs. He told me he was pleased with the improvement in air flow over a new stock filter element. The larger filter will not fit in the smaller box, the lid won't fit.

Yes, Donaldson is the manufacturer of the media and these filters do very well in this application. I'll see if TD will chime in here with his experience.

$60 is the retail price before shipping and tax, I give all members a substantial discount. PM me with your zipcode for a quote.

my air filter doesent have all the emission information on it. just a word of caution for using ether on the truck. it looks factroy too.

any one got any pics of the mounting brackets for the air filter to the fender? fonecop got me motivated to get mine installed and I'm assuming I didn't get all the parts for mine.
