Rebuilding a GEP Engine

Looks like a straight axle oil pan? you will have to swap it out for the old one.
Witch oil pan came in the hummers?
You might have a 6.2??

gmctd did a write up some time ago describing the re-reconfigured CDR which started in '06 for the Hummer engines, but similar (identical perhaps) to early 6.2 engines. The CDR is plumbed into the oil fill tube rather than the valve cover, and I suspect that is the "timing train spash-shield" he described, to keep oil flying off the chain from being slurped out the CDR.

edit - described in this thread... http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?t=1717&highlight=splash-shield

interesting .......

Someone here posted this site last week sometime, so I cant take credit for it. But the military is starting to "dump" these off, cheap too. It all just depends on where you are or have the money to ship. Some reason Cali has quite a few. There was two in AL that looked like they were never fired.
The biggest downfall I could find about going thru this site was the security clearance. It states on your first won item security clearance could take up to 90 days.

I looked at this site. I don't see any on there. Did you?

Yep there is a few on there now. Some are just blocks.
1.On the home page lower right corner click "TRUCKS & OTHER VEHICLES"

2.Then light yellow box on top towards the right click "ENGINES"

3.Then down a little bit on the next page under "Related FSC Categories" click "DIESEL ENGINES & COMPONENTS"

4.then scroll down till you find one near you ):h

There are alot of the late 6.2's there too.
Which IIRC are 599 blocks......

Thanks. I can't see where it would hurt anything, so I just may keep it.

One other difference I have found is this block uses 10mm Metric bolts to mount the transmission, which means I had to buy new bolts to mount it to the engine stand. And I'll have to order new studs for the transmission before I install it. The old engines used 3/8 SAE bolts.

The front pulley and fan clutch

How does this fan clutch work? What would one need to add it to 'their' pickup and get it to work? Maybe this on - off type, assumed, clutch would work really well pulling hills with a trailer?

Edit may have answered my own question here. From a Military Hummer:

WOW well that was interesting! Looks like many 6.2 blocks only spotted a couple 6.5.

Do they really end up going with the container & all for 150 bucs?

From what i can tell the bids start at $150, and the conatiner goes with. iwas watching one in PA that ended last wed it went for $650. The biggest thing to remember with these are: they are 24 volt setups. But that can be very easily changed ie.....
IP, glow plugs and controller, starter, and alt. I wouldn't worry about changing out the tach drive just leave it there cause ours run off the alt anyway.

The bidding starts at $150, but it goes up pretty fast especially when mass engine builders like the "depot" ..etc start bidding on them. Mine both were about $1100 / each, if i could have gotten them for $150 i would have bought a boat-load of them. :D The containers on mine were junk, holes/splits..etc so i tossed them asap. The 6.2's that were there were all 599blocks, that's what i was looking at to tell the difference.

I thought about this, but I just don't have the experience with block fillers to be comfortable doing that. And I really don't want to wait 2-4 weeks for it to set up. I admit its interesting, but I think this block will go as long as the Sub will, so I'll just build it as is.

If I were in your shoes, I would call Bill and ask him about the process. I know it is something he does in all of his rebuilds (performance and otherwise)....

Is govliquidation.com where most of you folks go for 6.2/6.5 stuff? or are there other government surplus sites out there that sell 6.2L/6.5L?

Also, I see a 1988 6.2l that is complete, and looks to be ready for a CUCV, aka truck application, rather than Humvee, and it says 1988 production, so what casting would this be?

and to stay somewhat on topic, excellent buy bobbie! Keep us posted on how it goes to put a military engine in a civilian pickup!

No, not the cam plate. Its the larger plate above the cam, it has two bolts and a stud holding it on. I did a little research and its called a "Baffle, Crankcase Vent (6.2 only)". So I would think I don't need this? Any reason to keep it or just pitch it?

Anybody on here that knows the 6.2's CDR routing?

Seems like it might have pulled from that area - so maybe it's a shield to limit how much oil gets thrown up into that area.
