Rebuild Time

Measured the cylinders and pistons for fit, set the ring gaps for this block and plastigauged the mains. So far so good. Also deglazed the cylinders and generally cleaned up the block.

Crank is in as well as 1-5 pistons, would have done more but had company. Camshaft would not fit, #4 journal would not go through # 2 bearing. Was going to replace bearings but tried the cam from the 98, it fit. Amazing what 2 thou does.

Yep can be a big difference. You did verify clearance with all bearings of other cam, right? Lots-o-oil pressure to be lost there.

Yep, used telescopic "T's" to measure the Cam bearings. # 2 and 3 journals were the same measurement, they also would not have gone through the # 2, # 3 or # 4 bearings.

I put a cam from a 98 trough it the day before you came,..fitted perfect as well.

Just put the timing set on and taped for paint, I want to get a new sprayer before I paint.
I'm at a bit of a stand still, I need a high volume oil pump. I thought the one out of the 98 would do but it ate some bad stuff. $295 cnd from GM via the USA or $155 cnd from Ebay via the USA, decisions, decisions. 6-10 days either way. I almost ordered a rebuild kit with the newer pump but decided against it. I've always had really good oil pressure with the low volume pump.
