Well that's it, the Russians cast my block.

When I was drilling the holes for the inserts, a friend of mine was there for the last 2, we both thought the casting was different.

I'm guessing inferior strength in the cast material is the reason a stud would pull out. In the case of foreign (non north american) castings, I'm not surprised.

Now Mike, you are quick to blame foreign castings, just because a couple are bad don't mean its all junk!

Leo's block was US made.

90 % of the shit rolling around in the US is foreign made.

The low end 2wd's are offshore, the premium ones are USA. There is a big difference in them.

Every JD i have worked on 2 whl drive or front wheel assist ecept the older 3010's
where German build,..I don't know about the newer ones

It seems like the new ones can be both. The premium 7130 is built in Waterloo and the cheaper one in Mannheim. At least for this model. http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/9/6/968-john-deere-7130-premium.html And some others.

I didn't know the older ones were German built

Well Leo has come and after a rather short but very nice visit left with a brand new block and a pair of heads in the trunk of his Yukon.
I hope it serves him well for many years to come.
It was nice to be able to put a face to the name of another long time member of TTS

I bet he's gonna poke some fun here aboot me akcent

Thanks Simon, I'm sure it will serve me well. It was a good visit but short like you said, I had gotten away later than expected and it is a long drive, 1450 kms round trip.

It's Chinese, the machining looks nice. The unfinished cast is rougher than gm's.

I can't wait to see some pics of it. We source some stuff from China at work, and from my experience, they can produce stuff that is really nice....it's all up to the parent company to first give them a good specification and then second to hold them to that specification. It takes a good relationship to get good parts.

The chinese blocks are better than GM's,...They don't crack to pieces as the ones the general makes

(the superior US castings so to speak)

I've had one experience with a Chinese block and it wasn't nice per say. The casting was very soft, when I put some bolts in and removed them, the metal in the block powered away. Would I use one in a pinch, probably, if I wanted some life, probably not. Hopefully yours is different.

Crap, I didn't see it. Simon is a thinner, taller version of the cash man.

The old block has a 1/4" less deck thickness or more than the Chinese. That is part of the 30lbs difference Simon mentioned. This will benefit the TTY bolts more than studs.
