Blocks f'ed. Kept going and more than one pulled at that torque, 34 "full torque" inserts are more than I'm going to spend. Did I say I'm not happy.

That sucks so bad. Sorry to hear about your bad luck, especially after all your effort in the mains. I hope you find a good block.

Used a second torque wrench, an old beam style, same results. Even grabbed an old torque to yield bolt, well before 90* after the 50 ft/lbs, it pulled.
 
I am 12 hours away from you and have that optimizer block from my build. Didn't want to part with it but since your in need I would take $200

I appreciate the offer, I don't have a passport at the moment though. I have a 506 block in another truck to tear apart. I also have a lead on a new Chinese block if Simon ever get's online.:rolleyes:
 
Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that Leo. I wonder what could have happened to that block to have made so many head bolt threads get weak? Thats crazy. :confused:

Beyond me Matt, my torque wrench may not be dead on, but some on here are going to 120 ft/lbs on the ARP studs. I can tell the difference, and am nowhere near there.

I wondered that too. I went to 110 on mine, but it's an Optimizer.
 
Got hold of a third torque wrench (Bothers,it's brand new). Threw the head on other side and everyone I tried pulled at just over 75 ft/lbs.

Block is stripped again and all parts are bagged, going to get the bare block from Bison.

Wow I wonder what turned it to junk? Good luck with the new block.
 
I think if I had a doubt a stud would hold in a questionable block I'd consider using green loctite on the block end of the stud. It takes heat to remove it though. ..

These were ARP studs with blue loctite on them Mike, I don't know whats with the block.
 
Wow, but as sucky as this is, what if they held just until it got under a good load. That would have been sucky with a side of fries. (or in this case side of milky oil)

You're right Will, that would have been worse.

I had that happen on 3 point hitch arms bracket that was bolted to the sides on the rear end of my belarus.
The bolts had come loose and the treads in the holes where gone.
I drilled them up a size and tapped them 2" deep. in stalled 3/4" grade 8 studs glued in with green locktite.
I let it sit overnight, i pulled 3 of 8 studs right out tread and all.
The rest seem to be holding 2 years later
