The hole looks to be 3/8 - 1/2. It's slightly smaller than the 5/8 oil cooler line holes.Most likely a 1/8th inch pipe plug.
Sometimes there was an oil pressure sending unit installed in that location.

Since the oil cooler holes are NPT would that be NPT as well?I wonder if that is where a stud for the clutch linkage tube would have screwed into.
If a 3/8ths or a 1/2” NC bolt will fit the hole, then that most likely will be the case.

If You have a proper size piece of pipe, or a pipe fitting with the same size as that bore, see how it screws into the hole.

Thanks! That's what I thought.The 95 I did was 4WD and had the tabs to the rear that would mount the support bars for the conv cover .
