SSForce will come over this Saturday (2 July) to help me with the door hinge pin replacements. Had to bribe him with a chance to shoot my new Sig Sauer and an SKS I got from 635. Happy to have the help. Besides, guns are funner than fireworks.
I went to start the truck just to do so and it wasn't getting fuel. I gathered correctly that the fuel line leak I noticed was allowing air in. After re doing the leaking 6AN push lock fitting, I needed to get the old fuel out anyway (hose clamp was loose but, just to be sure, re-do it), I used my compressor to blow the line clean back to the tank after adding some biocide (sp) just to stir things up. There's no way to get all the old fuel out without dropping the tank and I wanted to make sure the tank sock was cleared and all the fuel was mixed with the stuff. I stirred it up a couple of three times to be sure. To allow the crap to settle down in the tank before pumping it all out, I went to the local Air Dog vendor for new fuel and water separator filters.
By adding an extension line to the repaired fuel fitting, I ran the pump and filled one 5 Gal. container in no time. No leaks at the repaired fitting but the pressure on it had to be pretty low. Still, even with the fuel jetting out of the 3/8" line and splashing in the jug, there was very little foaming so the air removal function of the Air Dog was quite evident. Also the fuel looked pretty goo for sitting in there a year (clear, light green without any particulates) and the smell was 'normal' too. I've smelled bad fuel before...ugh. I do run "Diesel Service" additives pretty regularly and, IIRC, I had put a generous amount in the tank before taking it off line.
After the first 5 gals, I checked the gauge and it still showed less than 1/4 so I knew there was at least another 5+ in there so, recharge the batteries while I went to get a couple of new 5Gal jugs and filled them with fresh fuel. I still had another 5gal jug but, no use putting 'old [diesel] in new bottles...].' I could hear the fuel getting sucked out of the tank towards the end so I knew I had the majority of the old stuff out.
Added some more Diesel Service fuel treatment and biocide, then the fresh fuel, hit the starter for 15 seconds...rinse and repeat with a couple of coughs and it lit right off on the third try. I've started it for the fun of it a couple of times since and it lights right off. Air Leak solved.
Found the hood hinge for the passenger side (took it off with the old fender) and so I can put the hood back on again whenever.
OPS isn't sending oil pressure readings to the OEM gauge (I have an after market one). I hadn't noticed that before. I'm guessing my anodized AN fitting set up isn't providing a good ground path so I'll have to come up with something there.
Tires on it tomorrow and backing it out of the driveway and going around the block to double check for leaks on the transmission lines.
