Newbie to Dmax need some fast advice

i would assume he is like me, and needs/wants the 8' bed. especially since he works the truck, you need, more than just want the long bed.

Ken

they must have changed that too, because GM used to cover the lines from the rails, and now they dont. been there too, done that too, and still havent got the damn t-shirt. it doesnt matter much to me either, as i too run amsoil and filter.

Ken

cutting corners where they can now....

sure wish mine had the 8 foot bed... my gasser did and I sure miss all the room.

Well with ECLB, I can barely make a U turn with 3 lanes available :) Try turning it around a tree might have an issue.

simple. press brake, turn wheel, mat go pedal:thumbsup:

I would just go ECSB and build a set of wood rails that fit the steak pockets and stack it higher to compensate... there is only 17" more bed on the 8' vs 6' 7".....

Could get more in there if you'd stack it evenly :D
I always stack to maximize effeciency ):h

I could but time doesn't usually allow for it. I get up around 5am and hit the resevior around 6:15. I cut and load the truck in 45 mins to 1 hr and make it to work by 8:00Am
Besides with the 8ft bed with it loaded even like that I am near weight limit. The bumpers usually a draggin on the way out. It's all red oak and my GMC is a 3500. One thing I will say my 99 Superduty held a load better but the thing got stuck everywhere. My GMC has crappy ass stock tires on it and has never gotten stuck. IFS is way better off road.

The other thing I am wrestling with is if I do this I would have to sell not only my 2000 but my 95 as well for the fundage and I really love my Tahoe so it's a tough decision.

So I'll ask again.

What is it that the 2000 isn't doing for you?

And btw, an EC/LB is longer overall and in wheelbase than a CC/SB... definitely not what you want.

Mini,
The 2000 is still going but mileage is getting up there. It just turned 174k and I don't have time to play with it if something goes. Was just thinking about going newer that's all. 3 years doesn't seem like much difference but in reality as we all know my 2000 and the 2003 I'm looking at are two entirely different trucks.

Did the ecswb come in a 3500 ? I need a 1 ton. The wood is heavy plus it must be able to tow my skid steer.

Remember that the newer 2500HD is actually probably a higher capacity than your 2000's 3500 SRW. The newer 2500HD's are 9200 GVWR where as the older 2500's were only 8600 GVWR. And if your concerned about it just get a set of airbags as both the 2500HD and 3500 use the same rear axle and frame if I'm not mistaken.

I just wanted to post to get subscribed here. My Ford hit the bottom of the lake last weekend, so I might be in the market again.

So far, it sounds like LBZ is the way to go.

EDIT- Why is the 6spd auto so much better than the 5spd?

The 6 speeds have been internally strengthened to handle more h.p. and tq. The 6 speeds have been proven to be quite a bit stronger and can take more abuse than the 5 speeds. Plus, the 6 speeds are supposed to deliver much better mileage by running a lower rpm. I run around 1700 rpms at 70.

I've had an LLY (04.5-05) before I bought this LBZ. My 04.5 was a good truck and ran well. This LBZ felt so much stronger to me. It felt like I was running my LLY with a 50 h.p. tune on it. I just couldnt believe the stock power that they have, not to mention how quiet they are.

I would recommend that get the newest generation you can afford. 06-07 LBZ's in my eyes are top notch and the most power you're gonna get without all the new DPF emissions crap.

Thanks Nick. I appreciate the info!

I'm afraid the only way I'll get into a LBZ is if I buy a rebuilder and do the work myself, but I'll keep my eyes open and hope I get a good insurance check.

Found 2004 gmc2500hd FOR 18500. It has 8k miles on it. what do you guys think ? I like the GMC better. Not sooo Ugly...:) It's a standard cab 4x4.
