Did you guys see this yet.
Another PMD from Stanadyne. It will take a different PMD cable than all earlier versions and I think you can use the same resistor though.
I have not had one in my hands yet, but will in a day or two. Im not sure at this point how you adapt this new one to the older cable.

Read this for more info.

Still so new I don't have a cost yet. As soon as I do I will post it. Same go's for the cable.

Gotta love what some legitimate competition from the Dipaco offering can do. Stanadyne brings a PMD replacement product that appears to show promise in fixing a problem that surfaced in 1994:rolleyes5:

I can't gripe too much though, because the PMD issues are one significant factor in why 6.5 trucks can often be bought at a good value price if you're willing to do some work to make them reliable.

On a more positive note, they must have thought there is enough 6.5/DS-4 market to justify the costs of developing a better PMD. With all the economic strife in the auto industry, I can't help but wonder what impacts it might have on replacement parts availability.

better late than never with stanadyne. I'll keep that as a reminder never to buy a substandard stanadyne laden vehicle when my truck retires. is it only gm stanadyne deals with or more. in other words what vehicles being diesels would be avoided. Ed

Isn't it interesting that Stanadyne now publicly admitting via this redesign, finally admitting what many have known all along that temperature IS an issue& failure mode for the original design, some sharp lawyer ought to run a class action suit for all the $$$ spent to keep trucks running with the old setup.

Several "electronic experts" on the different 6.5 forums have said "nope can't be temperature related fail of the component", yet here in Stanadyne's own ad they say that an added improved is better temperature robustness, why say that if it hasn't been a issue. Notice also locktite on transistor screws to keep them from loosenig up, makes one wonder if Stanadyne been reading the forums and seeing the bandaids we owners have been using to keep the old drivers working, and then incorporated them into the old design for the new one.

Yep, everything you guys just said I agree with and were my first thoughts also. Why did it take them so long? and Dtech must be hurting them. The bad thing is they went and changed the connector style also, so as far as I know you can not retro fit this by buying just a PMD you will have to buy their wire harness also??
I will have the connector hopefully today or tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

One of the thing why they changed the connector is their assumptions that most people will change the whole IP. So for that matters it is ok.

For just replacing a PMD, it will be an issue.

Of course, if you have an extension cable, all we have to do is cut the current connector to the PMD and replace it with the new one. The other end will stay the same.

The task is finding how the new one looks like and if you buy a new one, it will come with it.

I personally, have 3 of the old one that is ready to be mounted outside on a heatsink. So I probably will not need it in the near future. Those 3 should outlast my truck even if it last me another 20 years (being optimistic).

I say screw 'em, -the ding-a-lings should have addressed this years ago.

As far as Dipaco hurting them, -GOOD.

If I was in the market for a new PMD, I'd give my business to Dipaco, -they saw a problem that needed addressed, -and addressed it with a better product that is COMPETITIVELY priced, -they fully deserve the credit as far as I am concerned.

Of course, I'm PMD-less now, so what do I care? ):h

The connector change is an assanine thing to do. Now if we want to carry a spare, it has to have the same connector as the new module. Forget it. I have Dtech now, and will from now on. I say screw 'em!

I still believe the heath unit is a far better way to go. This unit still goes on the pump and can heat bake on to of the unit. I never had any problems with that unit.

You mean like this :fing26: !!!

ROFL!!!

Holy crap, -now that right there is funny, -YES LIKE THAT!!!

I forgot we had that one!!

Nice!!! :D

PMD was probably a cash cow for them for a long time... constant flow of moneys... I'm glad they are updating and still thinking about it.

Probably trying to get the big contract for the Chinese Hum-V's :)

Pretty easy to offer a unlimited mileage warranty when it's combined with a two year warranty. If it's any better, the guarantee doesn't prove it particularly when compared to Heath's 7 year.

They need to go away.

Heath uses both DiPaco and original Stanadyne. Wonder which one they will be using next. If I have to buy a new one, I would buy DiPaco anyway since it has the same connector. Honestly, if you put a new one outside, I think it will outlast the truck anyway.

I hope somebody at Stanadyne is monitoring this thread. I doubt it.
