My trip, the lil 6.2 that could!

I am gonna get a leather thong and hang mine from the rear view mirror!!!!
I was reading that post and am so glad you qualified that with the last part of the sentence concerning the GP puller. With all your talk of the heat while driving, I had this very uncomfortable mental image of you driving through Texas, sweating like the dickens and wearing only a leather thong!:sick::puke:

On that note, safe travels and keep us posted. When you think you're going to be headed up this way, drop me a PM and we'll coordinate.

The King Ranch, hasn't Diesel Power done some features from there, including taking a brand new 6.4 (the brand shall remain unmentioned) and driving it back to L.A. a few years ago?

Thanks for the map update Paul!! I'm a map nut, just ask my hunting buddies, so when I can see a map it sure helps me build a picture in my mind.

Map nut here too. Spent a lot of time navigating road trips with my mom growing up and then there's 28 years as a 'detailed mission planner' maps, photos, SAT Imagery etc. I've got my own shelf of them and it just keeps growing and groaning.
I'd get more detailed with Bill's Great North American Adventure-Part 1 (there's going to be more I'm sure) but it would get too cluttered and then there's finding the places without a township like camp grounds and such without town names and then there's Bill's creative writing which gets the message across but confuses the heck out of google earth / map search engines....

Just remembered a thread that will help Bill, the Member Locator! Talk about a "Duh" moment. SO, if your an old or new member and haven't filled this thing out yet then please; log on, link in and tag up.

Continued safe journey Bill.

Hey Paul u r da man with the map n not far off either! I wanna get a color printed version and frame it! So the actual mileage hit a milestone today, went over 2000 right after I left Leroys house! The Lil 6.2 can do!!!! She is purring like a kitten, 6.2 dont roar n growl, they leave that to the 6.5s! Just do as the good doctor Turbine Doc reccommends n drive like grandpa going to the post office n she will chew up the miles gentlemen. Also officially put in one third of my veggie oil now, Leroy n Deejaaa offered me some but I am strange, my girl only drinks what I mix.

Husker my one legged fat butt in a thong would be reason for arrest, plus the sunburn, ouch!!!! LOL I am goin to the beach tomoro tho.

Thoughts on free wifi, it dont load pics not even at Mcdonalds. Its a scam, plain pure n simple. I have some great pics of folks signing The TTS Oil Can too.

Leroy thoughts on glowplugs. U like to turn stainless down on a lathe, I would be redneck country boy enough to wear a lil glowplug on a chain !!!!

Observation about both La and Tx. There r no dead animals on the side of the road or in the road!

What does coastal Texas look like, fences, fences n more fences. Must a drove past a couple trillion in fence cost! Lots of shaggy separwted round trees in the fences, I believe they r liveoak and mesquite. I figure there r cattle somewhere in there???? Sometimes its that 12 ft tall stuff like wild game farms on the hunting channel. Did not see anything African tho. Or maybe those whitetail farms with the impossible lookig racks! Gonna check into that. Along those lines the campground hrre is only $8 per nite with my disability pass so gonna dig into the cowboy, ranch, wildlife farm thing n stay a few days.

Paul I am in Mathis, Lake Corpus Cristi State Park Campground!!!! Just north of Corpus Cristi and Kingsville and King Ranch. Founded by Richard King after the War, Civil War that is! Richard King and his ranch developed the Santa Gertrudis cattle breed, very popular! More importantly he is credited with developing The American Quarter Horse breed, the largest horse breed in the world today. American Paint Horses are second, I raise that kind!

While on the subject while in La. I went to Catahoula La the home of The Catahoula Stock dog, they will drive cattle, tree a coon, catch and hold a hog! Plus Old Yellar was a Catahoula! Its also the home off Boo Boo Borell, a three time Kentucky Derby Winner! And lets not forget that that region produced a Quarter Horse mare named Della Moore, know in the history books as "that Cajun coonass racing machine that not only ran it out in winnings but produced sons and daughters that dominated quarter horse racing for decades and the big winners of today still trace to her. Interesting story, her mama was at a big track to run in a cheap race and she was in heat and this famous stallion was stalled beside her and the grooms were trying to play poker in the next stall and the stallion was raising a terrible fuss so the grooms bred the mare to calm the stallion down and there u go......The Cajun Coonass mare was born.

If this dont load and I have to retype I am gonna explode!!!!

Whew it loaded, Paveltolz its not my creative spelling its my creative one finger typing on this touch screen! LOL Just tried 3g pic loading its too slow too but I will catch up in town!

Leroy it was great driving today with the cloudy sky n sprinkles, not anything as hot! If I havent mentioned it I spent $400 to fix my ac for this trip and cant use it cause it makes the trucks temp go up! LOL Oh well jt will feel good back in Carolina!

Oh yea we have a " carolina blue sky" that doesnt exist anywhere else in the world. Texas is BRIGHT!!!! Like incredible bright hurts ur eyes, buy good wrap around sunglasses! Well gnite, gonna read some of ur posts, maybe I will get to add my only intelligent diesel chevy piese of knowledge for some newbie.......GROUNDS, GROUNDS GROUNDS GOTTA CHECK THEM GROUNDS!!!! LOL Since we r on the subject I been workin on that woodchuck chuckin wood thing for quite a while now n cant get around it.........

If this dont load and I have to retype I am gonna explode!!!!
you know Billl...if I'd have been online when you first posted it, I would have deleted it for 5 minutes just for sh!ts and giggles then un-delete it...things that make you scratch your head :hihi:

Headlines in Texas newspaper, insane one legged man found ranting in bushes in state park randomly poking at a cracked and broken tablet!!!!!

Hope you get the fan in before AZ. It is humid and hot. You will not be running the heater to keep cool - trust me.

It would feel like a blast furnace on your foot with the windows down out here now.

The 20" steel would sneak up to and hold 210 on me with the AC on. Overcoming the delay to get the fan on is the issue. WOT heats things up - then radiator gets hot - then fan spring gets hot. Finally fluid moves in the fan and it kicks in. The entire time your ECT goes up soaking up the heat waiting on the obsolete spring in the fan to kick it in. This time delay is why you get temp spikes. A better fan moves more air and will heat itself up quicker to kick in and provide extra cooling even at it's kick out 20-30% RPM.

You are ok holding 210 but need to start to worry when you go over 210. Don't worry about 210 and below.

Yes War Wagon I agree the lag time is what ruins the coollant temp control. Actually now that I have learned to drive her, she does not like 2500 & above rpms, heats up then. Anyway in 100-105 temps she runs a consistant 190-200 in rolling hills. If I hit a big hill I can drop her into third and run 40-45 and cool her down to 190. I wanted to do Arizona, Oregon and Utah most but they all look too mountainous. I am gonna go up thru the midwest n c how that goes n then maybe after burning all the oil and lighten the load try some small mountains.

Hey orrum, how about this: ssdieselsupply.com/product_2_6.5_Turbo_Diesel_Cooling_Fan_Upgrade_early.html? The fan engages at about 150* F, you have to use a 180* thermostat with it.

Husker dong u sleel? LOL The problem in my case isnt just needing more uniform cooling its the 410 rear. At 55 mph The Lil 6.2 is doing 2600 rpms in overdrive! Plus she is toting over 10000 lbs n has a big wind sail up there called my camper. The engine isnt heating its also the tranny heat, I have the largest auxilary tranny cooler on her but that still puts super hot air washing thru the radiator stack. The real fix is 98 clutch and fan, auxilary tranny cooler relocated under bed with a fan, 373 rear pinion etc. plus to be honest get a liteweight collapsible camper. My dinosaur of a camper weighs almost 4000 dry n no gear! I thought it was lighter when I bought it. plus rolling resistance, I got 6 wheels! Its a lot of lil things that all add up. I ran her hard hauling six big steers in a bumper pull stock trailer last summer in 105 heat on interstate 95 at 65 mph and held 200 and below. Just asking a tad much of my girl. Shes gonna make it tho!!!!!!yi

Bill, Pepp, and Husker, you guys are cracking me up!!!

I bet the three of you together in one place would be a show better than anything you could find anywhere else. My old elk hunting group was that way. With Roy (pastor, now deceased), Ken and Chief I never knew what to expect from them.
