My new to me 6.5 L TD motorhome

I really hope we wouldn't need to do that on the road. Although it wouldn't be that bad from the inside with the doghouse off. It looks plenty big. I'm starting to make my list of tools to make sure I have with, too. Besides I don't think the little red car will carry that kind of weight and us. :)

I'll be leaving right after I complete this commitment:

Sounds fun. 30 flights of stairs in 15 minutes is a pretty good average. Apparently there aren't a lot of old fat dudes like me pulling the average down.

Seems like you should have to run up the stairs at least three times! Like climbing the former WTC towers. You could expand the event to also honor 9/11 emergency responders, encouraging all fire and police to participate and get more donations for more flights of stairs. Do they allow donations through paypal?

I know there are events like this all around the country sponsored by American Lung. Some do more stairs and I suppose some maybe less and many different people participate, EMS workers, police and the general public. I have no idea about the paypal thing. Maybe look around the site, it might say.

As far as old fat guys doing it, I'm not really "fat" but I'm no "stud muffin" either. Last year I was the second oldest at 55, so who knows maybe I'll be the oldest this year at 56. This will be my last time doing this, because I'll be retired from structual firefighting before it comes around next year. :D

Well, with the help of co-pilot Husker 6.5, the new to me motorhome is home to it's new home. There will be more to follow, once I run the chassis vin number at the gm dealership to see what I acually have. It's got gobbs of power and pulled real strong up the grades from NV to MN. It nicely cruised 72 mph at 2500 rpm on more level ground.

3600 miles in 3 days and only had to change the PMD once, at night in a truck stop parking lot. It was easy though. Just take off the doghouse cover, plug in the extention harness and set the PMD mounted heatsync on the passenger side floor in front of the heater air duct for air movement. :D

It was a pleasure to drive on the road. I took the wheel from Salt Lake City eastbound on I-80 to Rawlins, WY. Climbed up into the Wasatch Mountains outside of SLC with no problems on 5-6% grades at 55-60mph in third gear (the 45mph hairpin curves, well, it handles like a motorhome and I took those at 35-40) with the car in tow passing semis. Same thing with the three good grades east of Evanston, WY at higher altitude, the passes in Wyoming, and climbed the 6% grade outside of Laramie at 9000+ feet altitude like a champ with NO black smoke out the tailpipe. 7.5 to 8.5 mpg through the mountains of Nevada, Utah and Wyoming, and over 10 from Rawlings (including the climb out of Laramie) to North Platte Nebraska on the second leg Jody drove. Not so good on the North Platte to Lincoln I drove, but we had a 30-35mph quartering/side wind and still it held 72mph rock solid.

Oh, I almost forgot, for those that remembered earlier in this thread I talked about the Lung Association Stair climb that I was signed up for?

Well I did it. Climbed the stairs up 30 floors wearing full firefighter turnout gear including air tank, boots and helmet, in 15 min, 32 sec. Not the fastest, but not the slowest either.

I'm glad that's over and I raised $510 for the cause.

A couple hours after I was done with that, I was on the road to Lincoln to pick up Husker 6.5 and head for Reno.

That's what I get for living in the middle of the country, a couple thousand miles to either coast. I don't know if that's good or bad? :???:

It's a good thing, Jody, it puts us in the middle of everything. Just imagine if you lived in Maine. You'd be getting back home tomorrow with the motorhome after traveling 7,200 miles.

Do you give tours of the new rig and the 18-1?? I've never seen either:cool::D

Yep, made it home just fine, except for the PMD swap after the first 500 miles.

During the 30 hour drive with another 6.5 enthusiast riding shotgun, gives a lot of time to come up with future upgrade ideas. Mostly obvious things to start with, you know, gauges, exhaust, air in, flushing/cleaning the cooling system, inside and out, brakes and suspension. Just the basics for now. I don't think I'll too much more HP, as it seems to do just fine the way it is and who knows with the improved air in/out mods, maybe all I need?
