Motor from Ted's Trucks not happy at 1st, VERY HAPPY with GREAT after sale care

here is a thought......?

what about the pump drive gear? the motor does not come with one. I would think, that if you used the one from your(my) take out with xxxxxx miles(mine has 262k) and meshed it with the one on the obviously low mile motor i got from teds, it would hooowwel

do i buy a new one? do i use bothe gears off my 262k motor?

I bet it would sound like the pete jackson gear drives i used to put in the small blocks when i was a kid and thought the sound was cool now i am old and it would drive me nuts! lol what does everyone think

I'd see about a new set of gears if possible or your old matched set.
And yeah, I only went with the gear drive cam on 1 smallblock... Sounded cool for a few days...
Then it was just annoying!

My replacement motor came yesterday. Today i got a chance to get it opend up. It looks great. I could not be more thankfull to Ricky and Ted's Trucks. This motor looks great inside. I cant wait to get it in and running. I took the heads off today and installed the new gasket and ARP studs. Will get the main studs and girde in tomorrow.

I forget how the pump drive gear is timed. I know there is a thread here somplace b ut i cant find it. I think it was one of Missy's great wirte ups.

I think you line up the two dots on the cam gear and the crank geaer then rotate the dot on the cam gear to the top then install the pump gear.

The issue with the first motor gave me some time to do some things i have wanted to do for a long time. I gutted the interior and Dynamatted the whole thing. I also stripped al the stuff off the fire wall and Dynamatted that as well.

I found a GM-8 for cheap and rebuilt that
I also thermal coated the exhaust manifolds and turbo body and elbo, with nickle, chrome, aluminum. it looks sweet and will never rust again. (pics coming soon) I sand blasted and cleared my upper and lower intakes and the snail shell of the turbo.

Number 1 compression stroke TDC...Dot to dot on the timing sprokets. IP gear is keyed to cam. Cam key is at 3 o'clock. Dot to dot on the IP gears. No rotatie.

OK so the motor from Ted's is in and runs sweet. I will say that the dyna mat was the best thing i ever did. Both in the cab and under the hood. Under the hood it gives you SOOO much room between the motor and fire wall. in fact, i could put a ratchet and socket on the top two bell housing bolts.

I do have one problem. not with the motor but whenever i use the tech 1 and set the base timing or offset, I get a loud Knocking from what sounds like the IP. The truck runs good otherwise and pulls hard.

Anyone herd of this?

I do want to say Thank You to Ricky and Margret from Ted's trucks. I cant thank you enough for your outstanding customer service and standing behinde what you sell. you went above and beond. I will tell everyone looking for a motor your the best deal out there.

If it runs good when out of time set, then PCM is compensating for the timing offsets, when you go into time set the puter comes out of control and you are running base timing, what are the timing numbers actual and desired showing when in time set should be 0 desired and 3.5-3.8 avg actual timing, I expect from your description maybe 2.6-3.0 is your actual number averages. Any smoke from tail pipe when in time set ?

I put one of his engines in last fall and it had a sticky lifter ticking. I called him and he second day shipped me a whole set of lifters. wasnt happy about having to change them but ive been snowplowing and pullin trailer and it still runs great with great oil pressure 10,000 miles so far....

It really sounds like the folks over at Ted's Trucks 'N Stuff are the real deal. I have no qualms about using the engine I bought from them. The only thing I'm doing is swapping out the pistons, since I have a brand new set that I can't justify NOT using and installing my diamond precups in the heads.

Weather in SLC has been terrible this week. All I need is 3 dry hours to get my engine pulled so i can start breaking it down.

when or if i wouldn't be able to find one local, i would go w/ Ted's. sounds like a good deal from what i've heard.

there are a lot of post already on this subject. would probably be better starting your own post, this has not been looked at for 3 months already. have you looked under search yet?
