Missy goes full retro

Just got off the phone with the folks at Rough Country.

My lift kit shipped yesterday (5 boxes worth) and will arrive Friday

Checked tracking numbers and all looks good

The wheels look very nice in the sunlight this morning.

Unfortunately they are not 15X10 but instead 15X8

This is actually better me thinks. The offset to the outside won't be so much and the tires wont rub on stuff.

Picked up a set of lug nuts this afternoon so I can try one on the rig to be sure all is OK :thumbsup:

12.50 tires wear more evenly with 10 inch rims. 8 inch wide rims tends to wear the centers out if you run proper air pressure in them.
 
I am going to run these 12.50's out and then look for some 35/10.50 X 15 super swampers

I want a little less width and more height.

The 12.50's I bought on these wheels are nice and flat right now with very good wear showing.

Just having something fairly decent to stuff under the rig for now is the biggy.

I have had 15X12 wheels on a chevy 4x4 in the past and they were just way too big.

The 8 inchers will do fine

If I can get my hands on a set of those 35/10.50X15 swampers, that would be sweet.

Almost any tire in this size range by any manufacture are spendy$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Craigs List is a good spot to keep an eye on.

Lots of stuff comes up from time to time.

Probably find a set there over the next few months if I am patient.

Got out a bit ago before it started raining and tried one of the "NEW" to me tires and wheels on the 87 as its up on stands.

:smile5::smile5: It bolts up sweet. :thumbsup:

Stopped off at the tire shop yesterday and bought 6 Chrome lug nuts so I could try things.

Bolted the setup onto the LH front.

With the lift kit, this will be great. I think in stock trim they would hit the running boards when turning tight.

Rubba is a good thing. :D

Not exactly what I had in mind for tires, but the wheels are the style I like and will suit the need.

Still looking for some 35/10.5 X 15 Rubbas with some good tread that will suit for snow as well as highway running.

Swampers are just to bloody arressive a tread to waste running down the super slab.
Not to mention that they HOWL like a pack of Coyotes at feeding time.

The size 33/12.5 "RUBBAS" will get the rig looking far better than it does now.

It has some 30/9.5's up front and some slightly over stock sized tires on the back (Metric size ??? not sure really) They are black, round and have tread.

Slightly smaller than the fronts :eek:

The lift should be here today, :smile5: Not sure when I will be able to get going on the install.

I need to finish ripping the 87 Burb apart to free up the slab in the shop area.

Once that is done I can get the dead Burb out and have a place to work.

Not even going to attempt to install that kit out in the rain and wind of winter.

I had to do the DaHoooley all outside, cause the FATTTT BUTTTT truck would not fit through the 8 foot door :sad:

Stupid me for have an 8 foot door installed there in the first place.

expect difficulty from the front spring bolts onthe front springs. I have yet to ever see a set come out nicely until my CUCV and even that put up a little fight.
 
The Lift kit showed up today. :thumbsup:

All good looking stuff.

The springs showed up with a tag on each one and the rest was boxed up.

Looks sweet.

Looking forward to getting the stuff on the rig.

Front springs have the tapered shim already bolted on and oriented with the center bolt.

The rear blocks have a slight taper to angle the differential input up a little bit.

New rear center bolts and U bolts. :smile5:

Just very well put together KIT me thinks. :thumbsup:


Had to run off and get a power supply for the shop computer here.

The fan in it quit and it died :eek:

Right in the middle of trying to order some stuff for a client and Pooooof all gone.

Run over town and got a new 500 watt power supply and in a few minutes all is well again.

Real glad that the thing is working again.

Fan stopped working and that did it in.

Smelled real bad.

Installed a new one and the sucker works sweet again.

Its a real bitch when the shop puter dies.


$40 for a new 500 watt supply :thumbsup:

If you can make the front driveshaft angle without those shims on the front springs, Lose em. They can cause neg caster and the truck will feel really loose. When I built mine years ago I actually cut the knuckles loose at the end of the tubes and turned them back and rewelded to compensate for shimming the Pumpkin.(Done by a certified welder , not Kenny the rod burner....)There is a formula/procedure to doing it but i was running 15 inches of suspension lift with 3 inch body turning 44's and the truck could easily roll down the highway at 85+MPH and drive straight a an arrow(other mods as well).
Anyway my point being, you may not need those shims and if you don't lose em. Your truck will steer whole lot better without them. With the old school front driveshaft setup you'll be using you will probably be alright angle wise withou the shims. If the kit doesn't include it , cut your self some box tube(1 inch ?? 2 inch?? I forget) and lower the mounts for the ront sway bar. That will also improve ride/handling. Alot of kits will tell you it's not needed, but it is.
 
Spent some time this afternoon opening all the parts boxes that came with the Lift kit.

Read through all the included instructions and got that stuff digested well.

Pretty straight forward stuff for sure.

Thing that iritates me some is that the springs come in with this huge sticker that says "MADE IN IDIA"

Hmmmm what ever happened to "Proudly made in the USA" :eek:

The dual steering stabilizer setup looks very nice.

The extended shocks all have nice little clamps that come with the cool RED rubber booties to keep them in place.

Pretty mundane other than the excitement of wanting it on the truck.

Probably sell the factory Rally wheels and tires once the new ones are on.

Looking for a nice used winch bumper now and a KICK ASS winch for the front.

A warn laydown 8000# electric will do fine for this truck.

Dont need any more than that laying up there in the rain holding the bumper down ):h

Nice to have a little tug if'n ya gets your butt stuck in the snow/mud or ???? :eek:

Been there a few times in my day. Sure is no fun without the winch.

Had to winch my way home some years back. Trees down, snow a couple feet deep and just plain nasty.

Had the 76 Ford 4x4 back in them years.

Bury the spare tire and use it as a dead man anchor.

It is better to have the winch than not.

I have not had a rig with a winch since the late 80's

My 82 Blazer diesel had a lovely warn 8000 on it.

I would love to have that setup sitting on the 91 right now. :smile5:

Placed an ad on Craigs list yesterday looking for a nice used setup.

This morning I get some scammer sending me an email

Not on a dieing bet am I gonna click that link.

Sure, this clown is giving away a winch and bumper cause he got one free.

That link is likely a quick trip to severe computer troubles such a s a nasty virus or WORSE.

Quick way to tell if a reply is a scammer . If the email starts off "I WILL LIKE TO BUY"

"MY SHIPPING COMPANY WILL BE IN YOUR AREA NEXT WEEK"

OMG I hate these pukes. Waste my time with this crap.

Ya run a scan to see where it came from and its usually overseas in some little dirt hole somewhere that nobody ever heard of.

Puke sitting is a mud hut with a computer on the dirt floor :eek:

Alot of the places around here don't have any real trees. I seen guys take another strap and wrap it around a bunch at one time and and if your not stuck to bad it will get you out.
