Man I love reading up on these threads... exciting stuff.

That portably winch anchor seems really cool.

Keep up the progress guys... Makes me happy to watch you guys build these old beauties. With the diesels to boot....

funny thing is the CUCV loooks like crap w/ the lousy white paint job the town did on it but yet I have had three people give me compliments on it including a girl who was probably too young for me, but it felt like old times and gave my day a boost. I never took any pics of my prized Monster truck but I do have a video of it on VHS. Gotta figure out how to get it on the PC.

I got to pawing through all the stuff for the lift KIT OH YESSSSSSSSSS :smile5:

Toys for the little girl here to play with for sure. Hmmmm after looking through all the boxes, I find that the rear bushing kit for the front "Lift spring" looks wrong.

Crawl under the BURB and measure the bolts, Hmmmmmm for sure wrong. The rear bolts on the 91 are 1/2 inch and the bushing KIT has 7/16 bolts and sleaves.


OOOOOOOOOOOOOOK, called Rough country and had a little chat :icon_bs:
Got ahold of the customer service DUDE.
I explain the problem and he checks out the order in his puter and within a few seconds has it scopped out.

Seems that by hitting the nitrogen shock upgrade (as I did) the computer
screws up and prints out the order for that part wrong.

Sends the older small bolt bushing.

They are shipping me a fresh set and they will be here mid week.

Great courteous service and no BS or excuses.

Seems that the difference between the 73-87 and the 88-91 is the spring bushing bolts on the rear of the front spring.

Oh well, at least I did not have the thing all tore apart and in a hurry.


Always pays to check out the parts before hand.

yep. 91's are bigger. The older smaller ones tend to break. Your better off with the bigger ones.It only took GM till the LAST few years of production to figure that out.
 
The breakage problem was rarely seen in regular service.

Most problems arose when the rigs were used in off road and severe service applications.

The addition of the 1/2 inch bolts was definately a good thing though.

Just glad I caught the screwup in the parts before getting the rig all torn apart.

My Dad worked with pack mules in the California mountains, when he was a kid; You killed one, you bought it. Kinda like your broken trucks! You broke it, you bought it (replacement parts). Reminds me of a '76 4x4 I got airborne at 80 mph; blew out all 4 shocks. bent 3 wheels, broke the rear diff.

It was fun flying, but landing sucked. Good excuse to replace the springs, wheels, bigger tires, etc.

Damned if I didn't do almost the same thing in a company service truck on a utility road 2 years later. Not as fast, and didn't break anything (much).

Ah, youth... being single, spending it all.

Missy, It was a PITA getting my old bolts out of that rig, It had seen Alaska to Colorado, lots or rusty territory. How come your stuff don't rust up thar in the dark wet?

Did Rough Country ask you to send the wrongly shipped parts back?

If you live over at the coast it can get ugly though. The fresh rain water just does not seem to cause a great amount of issue.

My 91 still shows the plating on the bolts, albieght its tarnished and grungy to some extent but will be no issue to rattle them suckers off with an impact. Just given a shot of Skunk Piss and ZIP they will come right off.

Secret is, dont add salt to the dark wet.

Not quite as good as the dry desert of SOCAL or Nevada or other such places but still not bad.

Heck I took the fuel tank straps off the 87 Burb within 10 minutes and no issues at all.

Still in great shape and ready to go back on.


Rough country did NOT ask for the stuff back.

Not hardly worth the cost to mail the bushings and sleaves back.

I could have picked up a set here locally but I paid for the right ones so why not let them fix the mistake.

Ha, If I had the money I spent on trucks I'd be retired at 41.

My retirement went away shortly after the 9-1-1 incident.

Business started falling off and has never recovered.

If I had the $$$$ I have spent on trucks ????????// Oh yess could be living pretty good too.


Ah well, had a great time though with all them trucks.

Well now.

Wheeling and dealing again.

Fellow came along and wanted my NP203/TH350 and had green folding stuff so it went down the road to a new home.

Guess I will keep with the 241 case thats in the truck..

It's funny how you actually looked for a 203. Back 20 yrs ago you could not give them away. I have a trailer full of them. everybody wanted 205's. It sucks that your so far away cause I'd gladly swap you my 205(TH350) for that 6.5 serp belt setup.
 
I am hoping to use the serp setup in the 91 Burb Or ????

Still not sure on finding a Blazer.

Got the proper bushings today from Rough country.
Showed up via UPS this morning at 9:30.

So thats all done now and ready to go.

Well
Went shopping at Costco Yesterday and low and behold, they had a great price on some Goodrich 35/12.5 X 15 diggers

Great looking tread and the price out the door was $193 each (Rounded up to eliminate the change)

I posted my 33/12.50's on Craigs for $250 and already have bites on the ad.

I got the wheels I like along with those tires for $375 so if I see the tires for $250 Im ahead of the curve.

Got almost enough $$ from some other wheeling and dealing to trot over to Costco and order them 35's

Heck I can mount them here at the ranch myself. Got an old ballancer over in the corner.

(Have to do it the old fashioned way rather than by computer ya know )

Wanted to get the tires I really want before installing the lift kit.

A 6 inch lift with 33's would look like a daddy long legs spider, HAAAAAAAAAAAAA

You may not need to balance them. I mounted my 35 Bfs myself and they ride fine. No shimmys or shakes. IMHO the best riding oversize tires ever made. Just watch your air pressure. The 35's hold like 50-65 PSI and running them low on air will break cords in the sidewall on them cause they are so narrow. Ask me how I know......
 
No you can if you need to. I'm just saying don't run 'em down the highway like that. Most tires on these pickups hold aroun 30-35 psi but these hold alot more and aot of people don't check the tire and run them underinflated which damages the tire.
