The cranks are identical in every way.

I'm not worried about the PCM (db2 swap) or the "factory" tach what's the sustained RPM limit?? I.E. (When does it "run out of gas/ steam" Stock pump and turbo vs custom)
 
I have heard the Land speed truck a couple times, yessssssssssssss, it is scarry to hear one of those engines turning 5K

Just about as scarry as a Detroit silver 92 spinning at 3000 Rpm.

Im have had a couple PMD's fail and go FULL fuel until the computer shuts them off at about 3500-4000

The limit on the DB2 fuel adjustment on the 4911 Ip is about the same as the DS4 but with the right programing, the DS will do slightly better.

The power (torque) falls off after aboutn 2500 and from then on its just spinning.

Bill Heath needs the RPM's to get the rig to go fast is all.

Ok thanks, the wide spread gears on the NV make it a pita sometimes trying to pick up speed..
 
The stock crank is not limiting the RPM's ,IMO its more the stock valve springs that can't close fast enough and start to float at speeds over 4000 rpm and hitting the pistons.
I bet Bill heat has better springs in that mill....Maybe better rods as well.
 
Good bet on the springs being beefier.

The only thing is that the stock crank was never meant to handle the sort of dynamic stresses of 5000 RPM and Bill runs Higher than stock compression too. ( 22.5:1 I think)

All these things just make the addition of a better crank, just one Helluva good idea.

The stock rods with good replacement bolts will do fine.

The stock springs arent so bad, and I think Heath uses them. They have a high spring rate which makes them good even at a relative low seat pressure and we have low lift. Now that doesnt mean I would want to use them, in fact I really dont, I like the idea of beehive springs and would be using roller rockers too.

I'm torn between a Scat cranks and the forged steel, but I am not sure that double the price is worth it when the Scat seems to be plenty good.
 
Can the stock or scat crank be Zero balanced?

(Can a Mod move/ split this off so I'm not clogging Missy's thread with my 1001 questions?)
 
I had Columbus Diesel Supply tweek my DB2 4911's governor to spin right at 4800. I'm in no way interested to test this right now with my current engine config... I was thinking towards the future. :) I'll be keeping the 4L80 shift points just like Ma General set her up to be, for now.

Of the few 6.2 blocks I have on hand, they're the oldies, the one running now is an '81. The one piece RMS deal would be the key to use a Scat in the old iron. Haven't even sized it up.

Stock rods are stout me thinks, wonder if a brave soul could get some 7/16 BBC bolts into them?

Edit: yeah I'm guilty of spamming a prefectly good thread too. Sorry.
 
well, he used a 6.5 crank that has .02" more stroke, than that 6.2 block was meant for. The later 6.2s used the same block as the 6.5, and same crank.
 
Been away for a while this winter, but not too far :D

Sold off almost all the projects (Blazer and such) and have enough $$$ now to go at the DaHoooley the right way.

Yesterday I stumbled onto a BRAND NEW Chevy 6.5 Block, still in the factory bag for $550.

Going to try and get it home in the next couple days.

Will order a set of heads from Clearwater and then rock and roll.

Keep ya up to date as time goes by.

Gotta tell ya Robyn, your comments have really motivated me to try the same thing. I'm headed south to San Antonio later today. I'm picking up my 6.2 tomorrow morning and bringing it home.

I agree with the idea about selling off other projects to provide $$$, room and time for priorities. I'm clearing all my mechanical treasures out of the shed and putting them on ebay or CL. But dang, that's tough! :nonod:

Please keep the updates coming! They really provide great info and a common sense approach to what really matters in building a strong, trouble free motor. :thumbsup:
 
Its tough I know.

But I think its better to sell off all the extra goodies and then finish one project properly.

I am still vacilating on which heads to buy.

The tough spot is that even with selling off a bunch of stuff, the cost of doing this new engine the way I want is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I really want the GEP heads, but $1000 is a tough nut to chew.

The night is still young though, so we shall see.

I can't let the truck sit another winter in the damp without running it.

This winter has been hell to keep the mold off the interior stuff.

I just hope that I dont end up with other issues after the long cold soak.
