Missy and DaHoooley, the SAGA continues

yesss,l My kids got me involved with an 85 class C motorhome, so I sold the Blazer and all the crap I had for it to finance the MotorHome and finish the DaHoooley (and do it right)
 
A set of GEP heads would make it a purebred:thumbsup::D Sounds like a great score.

Probably call up scat today and see what the cost is for a shaft.

Not sure about a source for the GEP heads though.

The clearwater heads have a pretty good reputation for holding up.

I have personally used 2 sets (one for my 94 Burb and one set I installed on a buddies rig)

Cost this time through the rodeo is not as serious a concern but still has to be kept to a reasonable level.

Would love a forged AMG crank BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTT at nearly $1000 I DONT THINK SOOOOOO.

Will keep things updated as we get up and rolling.

Bobbiemartin got new GEP heads through w.w.Williams co. I believe they were around $900 for a pair. Made in usa.
 
Saw the crank for $299

My cost for a scat from Scat is about $420

I am suspect that the one on Ebay is a chinese copy that is being sold as something its not.

Locally I can buy the real scat for $430 soooooo I am not going to bite.

I am going to buy direct from SCAT just to be sure.

Spoke to GEP this morning and a new set of heads is $1000 to my door.
This is $330 more than the Clearwaters.

Hmmmmm thats very little more, for the real deal.

Why not get a set of bare heads,around $ 200 a piece.

Heard a 6.5 idling at Home Depot yesterday so I introduced myself. Nice guy. Just dropped a Ted built unit in his truck because he had too many miles on the old plant to trust just replacing the cracked heads. Too many miles to him was 230k. My heart sank. Said he gave the old unit to a guy for scrap metal. With all due respect, I don't know if he had been having other issues but with just 'bad heads' as a problem description...I weep.

Missy, plan your work and work your plan. If you're undecided about the Clearwater units and the GEP heads are gnawing at you then trust your instincts. If you have the money, the peace of mind just might be worth the added $, just like the SCAT crank.
 
your supposed to look at the parting line. if it is crisp and sharp it's cast if it's wide and flat it's forged

Lots of scammer on egay. I wouldn't trust their word. I wouldn't risk a GEP bock on a couple hundred bucks.
I was in the ballpark on the price of the GEP heads. I debated using clearwater vs GEP when I built my optimiser. I lucked out when Bobbie Martin happened to have a set of near new n/a heads for sale. I think I would have spent the extra $ to have the real deal. I don't think I would spend the extra $$$ for the scat crank unless I was going for max hp. You don't seem to hear about GEP engines breaking cranks. Just my $.02.
