Long, slow build of my truck

Update for y'all.

Got my T4 y-pipe thing in the mail, $45 from EBay. The pipes are 2.5" so I have to get them down to 2" but that shouldn't be too hard. Other than that, nothing to mention really.

I trailered the truck down to Englishtown NJ for Diesel Nats and participated in the bracket racing event. Fastest pass was a 17.1 at 80.xx but I was more consistent in the 17.3 area. To my surprise it spun off the line each time, even with only 25psi in the rear. I did not try a 4wd launch just because it was my first time dragging and I didn't want to break. Based on my ET and trap speed, the truck seems to be about 245hp at the wheels, which is better than I was expecting. Part of me wants to drop it back to stock height and just race it, but I think a SAS 5 speed truck would be more fun. Time will tell. Either way, I have some go pro stuff to post, that will come later.

Thanks guys. In regards to the oil pressure, I have 5psi on a hot idle. Driving around it's anywhere from 25-40 depending on RPM. I've only had the AutoMeter gauge since April, so until then I was relying on the dash gauge, which I now know to be inaccurate.

The OP sounds low on idle but okay on the higher RPMz.
And here I was concrned when the oil pressure on my 6.5 is at 20 idle but runs 40 to 45 at 1500 RPMz.

Some miscellaneous information on the truck.

On Friday I ordered parts from Rock Auto to repair my leaking/rotted fuel filler neck along with a new sending unit and fuel tank straps. Then yesterday I found a complete Spectra fuel tank with sending unit and straps for $100. Paid $50 and picked it up today. The plan is to clean up the tank a little, install my XDP fuel sump that I have now had for over 2 years, as well as the new sending unit. Then we will mount the pre-LP filter I have to complete the fuel system with 1/2" hoses from front to back - except the secondary FF -> IP which is 3/8".

Also, the brackets for the traction bars (which I think I posted about already?) have been cut and welded. Need to mount them, then cut the DOM and weld it up.

Also on the horizon is finally installing injectors from Kris/John that I have been meaning to get to for awhile.

Unrelated to the current work, I have been trying to decide what my "goal" is for this truck, in the long run that is. I was thinking it would be cool to make this the "race truck" and try to make max power with it. Part of that plan included buying a Duramax to have as the daily, and make the 6.5 more of a weekend cruiser. Currently I am leaning towards the idea of making the 6.5 a daily-type vehicle (I have a Honda Accord 2.4/5spd as the true daily) and maybe buying a RCLB truck and shortening it to a RCSB and making it the "race truck" to drop the center mount motor into. That being said, I have been looking into 6 speed swaps for the current truck. NV5600's are out, G56's and ZF6's are options. I would like to go ZF6 to keep it at least somewhat original GM equipment. I have done some searching online for people putting ZF's behind a 6.5, anyone on here have input?

I wonder if the ZF-6 has improved over the old ZF-5 of the late eighties/early nineties ?
I had a 5 behind a Cummins, it had the OD bearing go out. For reasons beyond My control, I sold the truck to a guy that did the trans rebuild, He is still running that old 89 W2500.

Sump is installed, tank is in, fuel filter is mounted. The fuel filter mount is going to need some tweaking as it is very close to a cross member and would make filter changes difficult to say the least. We would have buttoned it up however I somehow wound up with 3/8" barbs for the filter and I need 1/2". So it should get finished up tomorrow.

On another note, I got shafted on a deal for a $300 11.5" AAM axle a couple weeks ago - put my name on an axle, guy said he didn't need a deposit blah blah - so tonight I picked this one up for $225 including the Mag-Hytec diff cover.

Believe it's 3.73, posi, disk from an 05 Ram 2500. Better posi than the GM version. I will need to change it around a bit as far as shock mounts and that sort of thing. But a smokin deal in my book.

We haven’t heard from you in a while @n8in8or hope everything’s been good for you. How’s the Tahoe doing
Hey Jaryd. Everything's good, thanks for asking. Smaller projects have been keeping me busy - nothing on the Hoe though. I'm going to be playing with injectors soon so I'll start a thread on that when the time comes.

. . . I have been looking into 6 speed swaps for the current truck. NV5600's are out, G56's and ZF6's are options. I would like to go ZF6 to keep it at least somewhat original GM equipment. I have done some searching online for people putting ZF's behind a 6.5, anyone on here have input?

I have input as this was my desired option due to the gear splits. I put a *lot* of research time into it.

If the NV5600 is out, then the only remote possibility for a 6 speed is the G56. ZF6 is a No-Go. Not workable even by getting creative in using the Ford rear half with the GM front half / integral bellhousing. Limiting factor is availability of the input shaft. And, don't wast time looking at listings for the salvage yards as when I tried it this past Spring, I learned that they are mostly advertising rebuilts that *you* have to *find* and ship to them for the rebuild. Gave-up after I got an E-mail from ZF which commented that it was not a good idea due to scarce parts; they even outright stated to consider other options. So, a clear sign to avoid something is when even the manufacturer states to avoid it.

Did not look into a ZF5 as IIRC it was basically a counterpart to the NV4500. Also, am not aware of a GM bellhousing for the ZF5.

Gave up on the G56 as I could not find anybody with a ready-made adapter to mate it to the GM block and did not feel like paying for R&D.

Unless your truck is making over 460 ft/lb, might want to consider a NV4500.

Final solution for the Burb was a NV4500 with cryo treated gears (except for Direct) and a set of fast coolers.

Bonus to going with the NV4500 is that the only part NLA is the brake pedal and assembly; all other parts are available new. For the brake pedal and assembly, I got them from a donor.
