No problem Leroy, the pic was just to show where the casting number was, it's a pic of my block.Don't think is an AMG, valve cover say GM. AMG should have dot matrix 506 in valley. If it is then awesome on you!

True, For me Ive had best luck with 599 GM blocks.I've had virtually no luck with any casting number block. Seems they all crack, only difference between the castings is where they are prone to crack.

Personally if you're planning for either big power or keeping the truck basically forever I'd save up for a optimiser or P400. With what I spent on my engine rebuilding it after the crank broke and then a 2nd time due to bad bearings I was almost 2/3rds the way to the cost of a P400. But that's just me.
As for your idea of swapping in another engine and building yours. Just ask yourself this, Do I want to do two engine swaps or one. If you find a good core, I'd build that and then sell your current engine while still installed so someone can hear it run. That would be my choice if your current engine still runs decent.
