I think its time to put in the new ip, just making sure I dont miss the obvious

Newer Grey PMD uses A Different pin-out or connector...If I rember Correctly....which is taken care of with the extension cable...

...which would explain why it wouldn't start...

I used the black PMD's cable extension from the other truck. That PMD what just toast.

Vacuum pot is on the turbo. It's what pulls on the wastegate arm.

The solenoid is on the driver side of the engine just above the valve cover on a bracket. The wastegate solenoid has a green "dot" on it.

Clear line is most likely a replacement. Trace it back to see if it goes to the vacuum pump.

The clear DOES come from the VP but I don't see it connected to the wastegate solenoid. HMMM! I think I smell boost by end of the day 2mro! Nothing connected to the green dot at all.

My EGR valve vaccum line runs back to the same bracket (wont be using that much longer hopefully). Which one should the the EGR be in?

Well, then the clear line goes from the VP to the solenoid, then another line from the solenoid goes to the turbo.

The computer uses the solenoid to control the boost produced by actuating the wastegate through the vacuum pot on the turbo.

The solenoid opens and closes according to the computer commands. This directs vacuum to the vacuum pot on the wastegate arm. This builds or dumps boost as required.

but, if your vacuum pump isn't making vacuum, none of it is going to work.

Not sure about the egr lines, my 98 is an L65 and doesn't have an egr valve.

Got it! Since my lines aren't hooked up to the solenoid then the wastegate actuator isn't being actuated so no boost. I will find the lines when I have some day light.

Would you happen to know which line goes to which port (outlet/inlet)? VP side to ? & Actuator side to ? A pic when you get some line would be great.

A qucik look at my 98 shows the rear port (black line) on the solenoid goes to the turbo and the front port (orange) goes to the vac pump.

So, your clear line from the vac pump would go on the front port of the solenoid.

But like I said, if the vac pump is dead, none of this is going to work.

Also be aware that these solenoids break down with heat and are a common failure point. The one on your truck may be disconnected because it doesn't work. They're cheap to replace though. Something like 30 bucks.

No doubt the "turbo master crew" is going to chime in here some time soon.....:hihi:

Thanks alot for all of the help!

They can keep their TM I would rather use VP or ATT.

No way to know if my solenoid is bad until I try it. Same with the VP, the clear line is just laying under the intake doing nothing so this isn't helping.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with installing a TM, it's just not the way I roll.....

I am sure it works great for some people but the nearly instant high to low boost seems better to me for both towing and econ. If I was just worried about towing TM would be a great option.

My truck has now Whistled its way into the non smoking section! WOW what a difference! Now to fix the IP.

Tranny problems have reappeared :( . Stupid TCC Valve...

Thanks for the help on the turbo prob!

I'll take all the help I can get! I have GMTDscan and cable but somethings wrong and my license isn't working.

How are things going?

They aren't, I can't get my GMTDscan to work. Stefan is trying to take me through it step by step but over email but it is taking awhile. If you can find some time to come give me a hand I would really appreciate it, I can fit my schedule to yours! I have plenty of beer and few steaks! Shoot me a PM.

If you downloaded the latest USB ALDL driver for the cable then I think the most common issue is selecting the correct port in the settings. And if you registered it on one computer, it wont register on another without moving some files.

Yeah the port is what i had issues with when i first got it. But now dont have that prob. PM Sent tanman

Oh, I did smooth out the truck by running 1 full qt of 30wt and 1 full qt of 2 stroke in the last tank lol! Man did she run smooth!

Alright so I am with tanman And his truck has us stumped. It literally just shuts off for no reason. Finely got my computer to to hook up to it (pain in the butt). old codes arent anything big. He has the grey pmd on a heatsink So i cant hook up mine from my extension. TDCO value is -.33 got it to -.88 still no change. What else should we try?

So it is just shutting off while driving? When this happens is the radio still going and the SES light on, other dash lights?

When it fails did he ever verify the LP is still running? OPS can fail intermittently, and if you monitor voltage on pin F of the OBD port and see it flucuate down to like 7V and back up to 12to 14V then OPS contacts are going bad.

Yes the LP is still putting out pressure at all times. The radio still works and all dash lights are on as if in wait to start mode.
