As the title says I think my IP is toast on my 95 Z71. Today was the 5th time it died on me while idling through the parking/ coasting down hills.

I haven't check for codes in awhile but it used to through code 18 everytime. I left the IP alone until it started causing problems, it seems that day has come. When it restarts ~5min later it idles rough enough to shake the crap out of my truck and misses like crazy. It doesn't do this everytime and starts great all other times. Only a quick puff of white on start ups nothing serious.

Let me know if anyone thinks it could be something else.

Thanks Tanner.

PMD is a new grey standyne box on SS Diesel cooler (not the best but better than nothing and came with the truck) Pressure on the IP or LP? My LP is working as of a month ago. I don't have any of my guages to check the pressures until this weekend.

X2 mine behaved like that as well with a bad PMD. My IP was indeed bad, but my symptoms were not starting hot after sitting for 30 minutes or so.

Starts fine hot or cold everytime EXCEPT when it just died, then I have to wait 5 minutes and then it runs rough. I dont have any fish bite/cut out on the highway or anything.

Clear tube method shows no air. My LP throws a heck of alot of fuel on the ground at idle through the T-valve.

I am refreshing my memory on jumping to get codes, I will post results later.

So I read the codes and my truck basically said HELP!!!

Multi problems, Here we go:
32-EGR Circut Error
33-EGR Control Pressure/Barometer Sensor
34-Injection Timing Stepper Motor Circut High
78-Turbo Wastegate Solenoid Fault

I will look on the bright side NO CODE 18! :D

EGR BS looks like it is time to put the F intake on and Wastegate BS Means I need to put my Holset 35 on (will have to settle with TM GM4 until i get exhaust)! All this means a tune with everything shut off.

Stepper motor problem can be fixed by the IP in my parents garage.

Did I miss anything?

BTW my IP only has 255,000 miles on it

It was new when I bought the truck 10 months ago. Yes it is on the intake. ~40,000-50,000 miles on the PMD. I have a spare on ol blue and on my parts engine. I plan to try and swap those on Friday. It will just be a pain in the butt digging it out. Those PMD's conditions are unknown tho.

You know that heat kills PMD. It can happen in Oklahoma, too.

Yeah I could see my pmd going out in 100+ summer heat. But does the stepper motor code point to the PMD? I am not having typical PMD Symptoms more like IP problems I have read about. With 255,000 Miles on the IP it is likely worn out. I have service records from the truck and the IP was never changed just had all accessories swapped to a new block as well as the original heads.

Where/How would I start diagnosing VP/WG codes? What leads where? I noticed the line from the VP to the turbo actuator was cracked in 1/2 during Injector R&R and spliced it with an old injector line and the original spring clamps, i used ~ 4-5in of the line so there is plenty of over lap. Could this cause a problem?

Will my VP pull vacuum enough at idle to be able to put my finger over the hose and feel it?

None of your codes are PMD sympathy codes, they are IP related.

And for that repair of the vacuum line you used an injector return line right? That should be fine, when I had mine I didnt even use clamps, just slid the small rubber vaccum hose over the plastic. You probably have another break somewhere or the codes are old.

Clear the codes using the pedal method and you can see if they come back. You would notice if the turbo wasnt working.

Yes it is a return line. I will follow my lines and see if there are any more breaks. My truck smokes pretty good IMO over ~2500 RPM WOT. With my idle being higher than stock it might be an upgraded chip of some sort, it doesn't have any SS Diesel or Heath logo on it though. Code BXRD.

I cleared my codes last night pushing both pedals for 15 sec twice. CEL is back on I will check those codes when I stop running around tonight.

Sounds like your still have a vacuum problem if it smokes. I will look at the BXRD and see what stock idle is.

For a smoke reference My truck makes as much or more smoke over 2500rpm as the ATT Suburban video just posted on the KOJO thread. I can do a brake stand @ ~1200 RPM and mash of it from a stop light and not even puff though, Aggressive tires chirping and bouncing the whole way! :hihi:

Not sure if this is normal, it may have a plugged cat (i know i know I need to just cut it off).
