Actually the cold advance/high idle switch is on the crossover on the turbo trucks. Dont know when they changed it, maybe when they changed body styles or maybe when they slapped the turbo on there.

Those switches dont last very long any more.

Like Dave said, the glow plug controller is all self contained. Get your advance fixed first, my trucks dont run much glow time. My 92 wont even kick back on unless its been setting about 5 hours in the summer time, been that way since new.

Glow plugs are cycling too fast and the high idle is not working...is it that sensor in the crossover that controls all that ? It did work ? The glow controller was replaced a month ago. I don't think the high idle goes through the glow controller so I'm thinking the coolant sensor...

Had to buy xover sensor too. GM #10154649 May as well order it yourself because the *Mcparts* store idiots will only stand there.

OK, got it ordered along with a new thermostat since I am certain it does not have a GM one. So this switch/sensor is not part of the glow plug inhibitor ? Weird I have the full wiring schematic for 93 C/K but it skips over the 6.5 for this circuit and only shows the 6.2. I know I have the sensor in the crossover and there is not one in the pass side head like the 6.2s. I'm guessing sensor since it did work.

You can test the cold advance and fast idle with a jumper wire/paper clip to bypass the temp switch.

How the heck do you do this? Will it work on my 93?

Yes it will work. Two wire plug on the xover sensor, pull plug and jump the two WIRES. It should then fast idle (remember to push the throttle peddle) and cold advance.

..and Kenny, IIRC my fast idle switch (the GM # above) was shot, so no cold fast idle/adv, but the glows would still come on and time out automatically. Maybe you have a twofold problem. Check your solenoid at the IP too.

Took some pics of the steering column all apart. What a whore to change the friggin multi function switch. Man, I like the 95+ columns much much better.

Yeah, the second gen GMT400 trucks are so much easier to work on aren't they? I've had my share of taking both apart.

That doesnt sound reassuring. Both of my 1st Gen GMT 400's need new multi functions. 93's wipers only work on 2 notches and my 94 doesnt have cruise.

Looks fun. Had my steering wheel off to fix the horn contacts, but that's it.

Brings back memories of when the tilt would loosen up on the 73-87 tilt mechanisms, tear it completely down to the NUB just to tighten four bastard bolts.

Yep, almost identical. In fact I had a tilt column in this truck and it was loose. I took it out and replaced it with a non tilt.

who in the heck voted cut it up for parts!?!? it was at 0 votes last time I checked this thread! remember the commandment: thou shalt not kill clean 5 speed trucks.

Nah, It's running good now. I'll sell it first. If I had cut it up, that lift would have looked bad ass in my Burb for sure. It's fun to drive but kind of impractical for a 44 yr old....My 5yr old loves it though.
