Going mechanical with a Moose Omega Marine IP

Beware, those precision of new hampshire have a POOR reputation. They are known to have clutch delamination as well as failed torringtons.
I had called them and could not get an answer as to what clutch material they use, nor could they give me info on how much torque multiplication ratio can be built into the converter for a given stall speed.....

Oh good. And I went with them because that's who my rebuilder recommended. I think I'm out of the warranty period now too, so I guess I'll sit and wait for that to blow up....

Precision industries in Tennessee has a really good rep, and the other place came out and chose there name to ride the others success. Quite a few DURAMAX guys got them by mistake, and pretty much all of there triple disc converters failed HORRIBLE deaths under not very high hp trucks. Quite a few places reccomend them because they're cheap, but theres a reason they cost less.

I wondered why the link took me to a site that didn't look like how I remembered Precision Industry's website. Clever. It's like MacDougall's versus McDonald's in the movie "Coming to America".

Updates?

I've made the transmission tune a little bit better, but it still needs some work. It's been SUPER hectic at work - working both early and late and also through lunches so I haven't really been able to do much. I will update when I get the trans tuned a little better. I'm really enjoying driving the truck around though, it's a lot of fun.

Also wanted to throw in that Mel has said adjusting the fuel screw will affect the timing.
Just something to ponder.

Yep. When I first started discussing this project with Joel I asked if I could just turn the screw down if I found that it was too much fuel, he told me that it would effect more than just the fuel and I should really send it back for an adjustment if that ended up being the case. I have no intention of adjusting any settings of the pump because I'm very happy with it. The one thing I wouldn't mind doing though is put it on a dyno and try various settings of the puff limiter to verify that it isn't limiting overall fueling if I have it turned down too far. In that same vein of thought, it would be fun to try various timing settings and when I do water injection try some stuff with that too like different nozzles and maybe even some methanol just to see. But first thing's first - get the tranny working the way I want at full throttle. It still shifts too soon in first and second and doesn't lock the clutch like I want it to. I think those problems are interrelated. Unfortunately I still can't get the software to work on my laptop so I can't datalog, all I can do is pull the module out of the truck, hook it up to the desktop, adjust, reinstall and try again. I've only done this a couple times so far, and I have made gains, it just isn't much fun due to how time consuming it is. Hopefully I can get back at that soon though.

Man that's a pain what controller is that again?

Hell I'm 56, have laptops been around that long LOL......

I'm right behind you, I turn 55 this July 4th! And my laptop is a 2003 model year Gateway that I've upgraded to its max of 1G RAM and 300G hard drive. It still runs on Windows XP and has a built in CD/DVD player/burner. It's a tank and is still chugging along, I pull it out about 3 times a year when I actually have to type something. Otherwise, it's all good on my Galaxy S6 phone!

I finally got a real race today. From about a 5mph roll on until 8ph I had about 1.5 car lengths on one of these Optima Turbos.

Not too bad. It's about 80*F out today and I'm definitely making more black smoke even when boosted so I'm leaving a little on the table there plus my still not optimized trans tune (though I did have an idea on how to optimize one of the trans parameters to get the converter to lock up when I want). I'm going to start planning a water injection system so I'll have a denser air charge to go along with the fuel. Plus to keep from melting down when towing. I'll be starting a new thead on that soon to begin planning the system and get some thoughts.

So you were probably running about a 15.5 at 92, a tick or two slower than my old '72 402 Big Block Monte Carlo with a TH400 and a 12 bolt 2.73 posi rear. Not blazingly fast out of the hole, but at 55 MPH on the 1-2 upshift it would scratch the rear tires and leave a 50' dual streak of rubber. 2-D came past the 1/4 mile at just under 105 MPH, no tire scratch. Yes, a lot of the Novas, Chevelles, Mustangs, Camaros, etc could take me in a 1/4 with 3.55, 3.73 or 4.11 gears, but by 3/8ths of a mile they ran out of steam and I walked away from them. I could hit 130 through a half mile. One night on US 77, I let it wind out on a nice two mile straight just to see what it could do, and had the needle buried straight down on the odometer and was battling valve float with the hydraulic cam trying to goose it a bit more out of it, when a Lancaster County Sheriff car passed me going the other way! Yup, saw the cherries come on, and I just shut it down and coasted over to the shoulder as he flipped around and caught up to where I had pulled over about 3/4 of a mile further down. Good news, it was Deputy Dave, our High School rep (I went to a rural high school outside of Lincoln). When I was younger before my parents moved to an acreage outside of Lincoln just before High School, Deputy Dave lived at the end of our block on the edge of Lincoln and his little brother, Rick, was a year ahead of me in school. We (Dave, Rick, my dad and I) used to race Deputy Dave's Micro Midget racer (think 1/4 scale open Sprint Car powered by a 500-600cc motorcyle engine) up and down the street when I was in Jr. High! Deputy Dave told me he clocked me at 141 in a 55 zone, told me he could take my license right there on the spot for all the violations he could write me up for, but instead gave me a good half-hour ass chewing there on the side of the road on how stupid it was to be driving that fast at night on a rural two-lane highway when a farmer could pull out of a field without his implement lights on and I'd never see him until it was too late, or a deer or animal on the r9ad would be it for me and that if I wanted to drive that damn fast, to at least do it on the Interstate where it was two wide lanes and controlled access, not somewhere where he may have to be the one to ring my parents doorbell and tell them I had just been in a bad wreck.
