finally scored a diesel Suburban!

I dont want a locker up front, too much low-speed or stopped steering, plus if all the tires spin on a slight sidehill you're going in the snowbank.
6 degrees this morning and it fired right up, cheapy little mismatched batteries and all. Learned that the temp sender I replaced was for the computer, so I got the right one, it goes to the cylinder head instead. Hopefully that's it. Got the interior cleaned and the carpet scrubbed yesterday. Nice!

How come I cant post pics anymore?

I too have been looking for a diesel suburban for a long time...I wanted an old model one & have found an awesome 91. BUT, it doesn't have rear air! Does anyone know how much that costs to get installed? Is it worth bothering with?

Clint

Good luck. When I fixed the rear air in mine the lines from GM were 350$ and they were supposedly the last of two left in production. If you find a similar burb with rear a/c the swap should be relatively easy. When you are ready start a thread in the 6.2 section.

The sending unit for the comp goes in the coolant crossover

dieselsub8.jpgdieselsub7.jpgdieselsub10.jpgwish Id taken some before pics of the carpet. looked like someone spilled coffee every morning for years and never once cleaned it up. Didnt think it would come clean but it did. 2 vanilla scented little trees and its starting to not smell like an ashtray anymore. Need to get a razor scraper to remove some stickers off the glass. Is it just me or does the back glass look mirrored? Usually subs have dark tinted glass, these dont look like actual aftermarket mirror tint, but they do look more mirrored than factory tint usually looks.

What the spare?

That thing is really shaping up nicely, looks real good.

x2 about the spare....

That thing needs some new wheels bad!!! :)

Looks nice. Heaviest legal tint on the windows, bugflector & window deflectors. :)

Lookin really good!

The color IS BLACK, right? Or is it maroon?

Side windows look mirrored too. it is black, and Im going to put window rain visors on it asap. Cause the left rear window will creep down if you shut it hard, and then wont go back up on its own. Think I scored some late model HD alloy wheels. What do you think, cranked bars and 285/75s? Maybe a bodylift and 33s?

got the correct temp sender replaced, now the gauge works. The water neck is all covered in orange permatex, guy told me it needs a new gasket. I looked closely and saw it is actually leaking from a hole in the upper hose, right underneath the hose clamp. New hose will be waiting for me at Advance in the morning. I love Advance.

Are the Alloy wheels 17"? More narrow tires would be better in snow and maybe on economy and fitment, perhaps a 255/75. A lift would make it less aerodynamic and might not ride as well, but a few inches might look cool. Today I saw a truck that was lifted over the height of the like 36" tall tires, which just looked really odd, and a but silly.

no they're 16, the ones GM puts on 2500hds from I think 2001 and up. I know they are narrow rims but I've seen 285s on them before. I have 255/85s on my dually because they're narrow. Dont want to buy them again, they are an oddball size and hard to find. I don't want to go really huge, just something in the 33 inch range I think. Can't do a suspension lift on these trucks anway, it's ridiculously expensive. Bodylifts are actually 3 times what they used to cost, but they're simple and give you room for tires without changing much. I'll always exchange fuel economy for having the truck sit and perform the way I want. But, I dont want to go all crazy with this one, I dont think SUVs look as good dressed up as a mud truck as a pickup does. I kind of want to do that to the 82 though. I've got a 4 inch suspension lift halfway done, and if I could only find some taller dually tires I'd throw in a 3 inch bodylift I've got for it, make it really decent sized. But not if it's going to be sitting on 31 or 33 inch tires, then 7 inches of lift make the tires look puny.

I think somebody around here has those HD wheels on their Suburban, I've seen it before and love how they look

I think the ferminator (spelling?) had a set on his dmax suburban. Im a fan of the stock wheel settup myself, but to each his own. The newer HD trucks came stock with 245/75/16 pizza cutters. I run 265/75/16's on my dmax which I think looks much better, what gm should have done from the factory. And yes, you can squeeze a 285 tire on the same size rim too. If fuel mileage is in question, stay with the smaller tire. I lost almost 2mpg with the 265 tire. If I were you, id crank up the t-bars and just run the 265's.

Burb looks nice btw!! I kind of like the "oak" interior. Looks like the body is also nice for a new england rig. As for the windows....I think they had a factory mirror tint, as well as a "green" tint. That does look to be a bit more than factory to me though. Good luck with it!

I'd go with the 235/85 pizza cutters are as tall as possible and thin. Like a 31, just narrow. Much better for snow, and they are a dime a dozen. They will fit without lift. Anything wider at that hight may rub when turned stock shape.
