finally scored a diesel Suburban!

Awesome find, and I prefer the 94 trucks, partly because I have one, partly because its OBD1, and partly because of the old school interior. I like the interior, its simple and plain. The factory radio and EQ was awesome, until it stopped working. The seat are awesomely comfortable somehow, have driven a few 1000 mile days in mine no problem.

It definately has a 4L80E and with a 14-bolt it could be 3.73 or 4.10s, 3.42s are 10-bolt. The glove box sticker will tell you which RPOs are installed. GU6 is 3.42, GT4 is 3.73, and GT5/8 is 4.10. You may also have the Burb 42 gallon fuel tank over the 34 gallon truck tank. Makes for a long driving range or plowing time without refueling.

I recommend keeping the single stat and just upgrading to the 2000 year high output water pump and screw on HD fan clutch with Dmax fan. And you already know to get the K47 intake and 4" exhaust. One other thing you should do fairly soon is the OPS relay modification, and you can add priming during WTS when you do that like your OBDII truck did. There are some schematics for wiring that up floating around the site. 94s dont have under hood fuse box, just under the steering column and the LP fuse on firewall.

Check the upper intake because several 94 F engines had restricted uppers like the EGR intakes, and you can cut out all that restrictive aluminum pretty easy.

This thread would be worth much more with pictures.

Im still looking for a 93-94 Sub w/red interior. My brother found one for $500 in great shape, but needs an engine, so he's going to put a Cummins 4bt in it.

Congrats on the purchase, as others have said for that price I'd snap it up.

To clarify on the rear axle, the 2500 can be a 3.42, 3.73 or 4.10 and I am coming to believe that a 3.42 in a 2500 is not as rare a possibility as you'd think. The 3.42 will still be a 14 bolt but will be a semi floater, the 3.73/4.10 will be a 14 bolt full floater. Just reread Buddy's post, so I am guessing based on his sig that he has a 10 bolt in his 1500 interesting. Well put it this way my 2500 with a 3.42 is a 14 bolt SF, also note if a 2500 with a 3.42 you'll have heavy half rather than 3/4 ton springs.

As already mentioned check your RPO codes in the glovebox for what rear you have also look for G80 to see if it has the locker in it.

Cheers

My C1500 burb is 14 bolt 3:42 8 lug wheels, I'm possibly thinking Buddy the departure 10 bolt vs 14 bolt is in the 2wd vs 4wd pickup as my K1500 has 14 bolt SF 6 lug wheels yet my C1500 gasser has the 10 bolt rear 5 lug and much smaller od shafts than the K1500, out of curiosity you have 5 or 6 bolt lug pattern stock on your C1500?

As I understand it and according to my manual, the RPO codes GU6, GT4 etc refers to the ratio only.

There is no real what axle is it RPO code that I can see, merely weight ratings. I guess it's a case of get under it and see what you have.

Ah Buddy has a pick up, yep I was under the impression that all Diesel burbs were 8 bolt with either a 14 bold SF or FF rear.
Cheers

So did the Subs ever come with FF rear? Ive not seen one. Are they a direct swap for the SFers rear?

My half ton 2wd p/u is a 5 lug.

Yes as already stated in prior posts, the 3.73 and 4.10 in a 2500 is a Full Floater. GM confused things though by also badging a Sub with a 3.42/ SF and Heavy Half springs as a 2500, it specs out at 8050 rather than 8600 on the GVWR.

Tim out of curiosity what is the GVWR on your C1500 burb?

Cheers

I have the 10 bolt, its small, oval like. With 5 lug wheels. Came stock with 15" wheels.

So not a REAL Diesel truck with 6 or 8 lugs :D I'm sorry Buddy I could not pass on that :hihi:

But it does clear some ponderings of mine where I had installed a No Slip locker in both my C1500 and K1500 and was blown away at the size difference of the axle diameters>

I had deduced incorrectly that the larger shaft OD and 5 vs. 6 lug thing was due to it being Diesel vs gasser, as it turns out from this revelation of yours it's a C vs K or carry weight that prompts the axle/rear end sizing/bolting.

Out of curiosity now, is there a 6 bolt 2wd configuration in a 1500 GM truck excepting special order maybe ?
