Is this worth doing without drillingthe four holes under the screen? I don't exactly know where that is, and you guys make it sound a little scary, like it would be easy to mess up. I'm up for the rest of the FTB mod though, thanks to the clear instructions and pics.

Trying to get this part out but need a little help on what to use since i'm a total noob, do you have to remove that cylinder(red arrow) to get at nut(circled)? cant seem to get anything on it, any info would be greatly appreciated

A deep socket will work, if you don't have one just remove the Fuel Shut Off Sol.(FSOL) that's what your arrow is pointing to.

BTW Welcome

i'll have to see if i can find a thin wall socket, the one i tried didnt work, if not i'll remove the FSOL, just didnt want to mess anything up, thanks for your reply

I sell the parts here... Tools, requires a removal of the intake manifold, seems like 10 millimeter nuts on the top, 15 for the big ones on the bottom manifold, a couple of intake manifold gaskets and voila, you are there.

One of the better, less expensive and super good ideas, because it's hot under that intake manifold, most of the original hoses need replaced.

Good luck.

You can pretty much do anything you want with this mod. There is more work to do, to get the total benefit, with drilling out the lower IP fitting. Can also be seen in my thread

http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?t=14091

Few essentials
1) correct upper IP fitting, 7/16-20 Oring adapted to your 3/8" size preference, Walking J sells awesome steel pre-bored fitting for this that will work with -6AN or 3/8 JIC fittings.

2) upgrade to 3/8" line from filter to IP, means need to tap filter manager for 3/8" size fitting

3) higher flow lift pump (Walbro, Airdog, stock Cummins pump, etc....)

The actual benefit of this mod is not fully realized until a reflashed PCM is installed with max fuel output. Stock L65 "F" PCM limits you to 80% of the max fuel and it cuts it out real fast after you reach it. Without the reflashed PCM you can get away the stock 93 year lift pump, which was better and cheaper. Putting a pre-LP filter in is optional, but afterwards can remove the tank sock inside the fuel tank. (For 6.5dragracer if you kept gasser tank when converting that sock is probably going to clog much faster and best to just remove the sock)

This can also be done without removing the lower intake, that is how I did it.

But no better time to do a good housekeeping and inspection of the valley while your there.... Your not breaching any water jackets.

Fantastic time to replace your OPS too.

I just finished this mod today and thought I'd post some pics and observations. I installed the "feed the beast" fittings from Patrick at Walking J.

NOTE: I have had good experiences with all 3 vendors I have contacted here so far (Tim @ accurate diesel, Patrick @ walking J, and Leroy at pmdcable.com). Many thanks to each of you for excellent customer service.

I dont believe these have been posted before, but if they are I apologize.

Pic 1- This is the bottom of the pressed in fuel fitting you are drilling out. It turned sideways and the drill bit stopped- was a good indicator of when you are really close. I pulled it out with a small screwdriver. I then deburred the bottom of that hole with a jeweler's screwdriver.

Pic 2- I chamfered the holes I drilled in the IP fitting. Mine had lots of metal edges on it after drilling them out so this made sense. Used a dremel with chain saw sharpening attachment.

Pic 3- this little screen is on the bottom of the IP fitting. Mine was full of junk. I cleaned it and reinstalled.

1 note, this too may have been covered- I think the 135 or 150 degree IP fitting is a VERY good idea. The 90 degree fitting does work obviously... but it puts the hose tight against the manifold and makes it a little bit of a bugger to get on.

Thanks for sharing the pics and experience. Let us know how the truck responds to the upgrade. I would also recommend a 120-150 degree elbow, but they just arent inexpensive like the 90 degree, especially in steel. Although I moved my filter so I didnt run the lines under the intake.
