extra large oil filter installed.....

Will be interested to hear how it turns out with the filter change and several cold starts.

Did you have to add more oil into the crankcase when you added the turbo? I guess its not that much volume added though. Any used oil analysis by chance, or much blowby or coolant loss?

Truck's only been out of the shop for about 2-3 days now. Haven't put but a few miles on it since the turbo was installed. The Banks manual didn't state adding any more oil, but i've always put in 8 quarts, versus the ~7 it takes. The internal oil cooler takes close to a quart itself. Found that out when i had 8 quarts and no cooler(1 quart over) and hooked up the cooler lines and the level dropped to "full".

Blowby doesn't make sense, never did though. The bottom end of the engine is so clean you can read every part number. Even the numbers on the undersides of the pistons. Yet it has a good bit of blowby. I'm curious if the rings just never had a chance to seat considering the evidence shows a very low mileage motor, and i know it sat for over 10 years before i bought it. There's not enough vacuum in the air intake pre-turbo since the CDR isn't working. Going to try building something with a 6.5 CDR to see if i can get it working again.

I'll post my findings on the filter change in the morning. I'm not looking for anything other than reducing the time with no oil in the charger at startup.

My 93 had an SSDiesel cone filter and I had smoke coming out of the dipstick and oil cap once the engine warmed up. It is my feeling that the airfilter did not cause enough vacuum for the CDR to work properly. As soon as I put the K47 on with paper filter, the problem was gone.

Can't put the K47, or the flat panel box on the K-5. No where to mount it. Not sure what i want to do yet, but i may end up using a K47 filter to get a little more vacuum in the intake tubing. I do want to build a CAI at some point, but there is very limited space there. The Banks filter box isn't a bad idea, I just don't like the K&N filter(can't get anything else as it's a custom made filter for banks) and i don't like the CDR outlet being mounts far from the turbo inlet. GM put it close to the turbo inlet for a reason.
