Got to love the 2wd. Do you not have an inspection cover there?

I hadnt seen the STP, I'll add it to my paper if that a good brand for filters.

and also vented CDR to the ground. will put a catch can in case it wants to drip but hoping it doesn't.
interchange #'s for the filter, Purolator L40084, WIX 51794, NapaGold 1794, Fram PH-373, STP S373. holds 2 quarts.
STP seems to be a Champion made filter. from what i've read, a good filter.

I would guess the Wix and NapaGold are the same. With the things I have heard about FRAM they are hard for me to use the oragne normal ones. I think the Tough gaurd are alright though. I get the Wix ones from Ashton the oil geek on here.

You 2WD guys get to have all the fun!

Not in the snow, we don't!

NICE filter, THE FERMANATOR says STP brand filters are a pretty good choice.....Good enough for me.

I had asked about STP oil filters when I bought something from AutoZone and they gave me one for free (Not that big A$$ monster, but a regular shorty)....and the consensus was STP wasn't a bad product, FERM said he"d been using them without any issues for a while.

Like I said, good enough for his D-Max, then good enough for me.

I can use the 2 quarter on my 93 4x4 with no issue....:D BTW that is a gasser filter. I was under the impression there was something different about them but wasn't sure what but I know a 6.2/6.5 uses a PH5 Fram and a Gasser uses a PH13 which are both 1 quart and the PH373 is the 2 quart gasser filter although I used the PH373 on all my 6.2s without any issue ever.

this one doesn't have the anti-drain back valve so 4X4 might get a starved filter on shutdown/start up unless remote mounted.

Aces, you must have been looking at 4wd charts. If you looked at 2wd as well, you would have to consider the 6.2L 6.5L filter a gasser filter as well.

here is the filter rundown for GMT400 body style fullsize trucks. SUVs should be the same.

I will use baldwin numbers, as they have an easy to navigate site, with in depth specs, and related filters are mentioned.

4.3L V6:
2wd: B35-S
4wd: B35-S

Gas V8: (305, 350, 454)
2wd: B1428
4wd: B35-S

Diesel: (6.2L & 6.5L)
2wd: B1428
4wd: B1428

so basically, on our farm, a B1428 covers all of our GM pickup trucks with any type of V8. good ol 2wd gets the big filter, and a 4wd gets the v-6 filter. (oh look, another 4wd comment laced with negativity! :) from me? never would have thunk it!)

btw, I am not cheerleading for baldwin, we use them, but I run Wix in my trucks, as they are easier to get. both are great filters IMHO.

I also went to the wix site out of curiosity (possibly better laid out than baldwin. Filter companies follow the KISS principle pretty well on their websites!)

Yeah I don't love Baldwins either. Made by Hastings and I don't like Hastings. I know, supposedly they changed the design years ago but all I can think of is a roll of toilet paper in a coffee can....

FRAM makes poor quality filters, good luck getting one with a working anti-drain back valve as they are so poor quality. Cardboard endcaps on the filter media and leaking bypass and anti-drainback valves are common due to manufacture...

The 2wd filter used on the 4wd will significantly delay oil pressure as the filter fills. The (working) anti-drain back valve is really important and doesn't hurt to have in 2wd applications.

The longer filter simply will not fit the 4x4. We have tried...

Hate to be a fly in the ointment but I am getting ready to order my oil filter and was going to order the extra qt one number 51794 but noticed the stock one was 51060 and the extra quart one was only 2 inches longer???? Now I fluncked rithmatic in college but I am old enough to remember when oil cans were round and they were bigger around than oil filters and a whole lot taller than 2 inches so plz explain to me how a oil filter 2inches longer or so can hold a whole qt of oil?????? Thanks newbie here seeking Obi Wan Quanobi! LOL

Its 2.5" taller, plus, it does not have the anti-drainback or bypass that stock ones have, and there is some of the overhead of the threads and stuff on top and bottom.

orrum, do you have 2 or 4wd? pic looks like 2, but just making sure.

IDK about the filter, maybe it doesnt hold 2 qt, but it is bigger.

Oops 2wd I need to put that in my signature. I agree its bigger and I am gonna use it but if it doesnt add a qt I have seen guys on here say they put 2 gallon in instead of 7 qts when using the large filter and we need to make sure nobody does that and overfills the engine. Oversize filters are a old trick for newspaper carriers cause we run such trashy vehicles that are disentegrating internally! LOL Had a second job once as a carrier.
