Ether; use it or not, some say yea, some say nay.

This is my point why there should be rates applied - Law enforcment gives you no choice, so they add insult to injury and hit you for $325 for a 6 mile tow? No Gov angency protects the public for Nonconsenual tow?

So the Tow Co. in Canada have no Governing body?.....Can anyone go run a wrecker with no tow license, medallion or credentials certified to tow vehicles?

I'm comming to Canada!
Hey Leo, do you have any space up there where I can hang a sign?

I think I'll call it North View Wrecker service.....:thumbsup:
Waddayathink?

Don't forget your Ether!

OK, I think the points have been made here. I hear the off topic whistle a blowing.....

I'mma gonna start this thread rrrrooollliingg again. ):h

Finally got time to pull a few plugs. Talked with my dad, and he said he had ordered the quick heat ones from SSD. Before you hop on the anti-ether band wagon, :D, this was happening right from the start. plugs went in with the new IP and injectors.

pulled 2 out, direct wired to my new battery, and held onto the tip. one actually gave off a little warmth. about as much as you would get from a candle in the middle of a blizzard. just to check, i pulled one out of my 93, and wired it up the same. a few seconds and it was glowing red. i just can't believe that all these plugs would have been screwed from SSD. all the ones i pulled were clean, no swelling or anything missing. :eek: monday i will get a few new ones in and see what happens.

He told me it was becuase I didn't replace the controller at the same time.

That's the problem with dealing with SSD... Walt just won't stand behind obvious stuff like those WAP glowplugs.

The most he will warranty is 2 of them. Do yourself a favour. Quit fighting with Walt.

Cut your losses, buy some Duraterms or AC60gs from a vendor that you can trust, and get even by telling everybody you know about your experience.

That was 2 years ago even I'm not that stupid.:D

I will never purchase anything from SSD.

I have read way to many horror stories about his buisness practices.

I do not wish to put myself in a situation that I will lose money or have to argue with someone that has to be right even when he is not.

But, this is just me.

Anyone also have battery problems before their glow plugs failed?

Nope. Why? Another part of the SSD story?

I have a SSD sticker on my truck. It's coming off. I can't e-mail him and complain. When I complained about my injectors, he blocked my IP address.

What is WAP?

I'm going to my parts store tomorrow and just going to get the same ones I put in my 93. Those have worked fine so far, so that's what I will use. Need this truck running soon.

Thanks for the suggestion to check the plugs. I don't think I would have bothered otherwise. :thumbsup:

ether will wipe out glows. I have personal experience with this. I ran the truck out of fuel and the 6.2s had mech LP so needless to say a bitch to get going again. Like you have said, I needed it running, was young, inexperienced, and hit it with ether to start it. My glows were fine before that and only about 2 month old 60g(all I ever use). I wiped 6 of them. Lesson learned. In your case, I will concur that WAPs are garbage from what I have read. I actually got a set from a vendor and returned them without even putting them in for that reason. So bottom line here we won't speculate on what killed them but rather that is your problem BTW I find it hard to believe that the controller would cause it.

Here is a link to acronyms for the 6.5TD;

I do not see WAP I will find it for you.

It is at the tip of my tongue I just can not remember. :mad2:

It seems from my google search that WAP is a brand of glow plugs. But, I could have sworn it meant something else.

If you need glow plugs I would go with the Bosch duraterms. I have not yet seen someone complain about them yet.

WAP = Wellman Auto Products

They made a whole pile of 'Quick-Heat Glow Plugs' that were absolute crap - burned out in less than a year, in most cases.

Walt had a long-running feud with the people who bought them, and in most cases, refused to warranty them. Kept telling them it was their fault for not installing a new glow-plug controller at the same time - and intimating that was standard practice (yeah, like everyone does this).

For the ones who DID install a new GP controller, he then only warrantied 2 of the WAP plugs per set. The 'why' of this seems obvious.

I used to defend Walt, largely because he was being hassled by Steaky. Between this crap with glowplugs, his Bee Ess excuses and evasions over shipping UPS to Canada, his insistence that the manifold is THE location for PMDs, and the fact that he has left friends of mine hanging on warranty, I can't do that any more.

Buyer beware. It's better to pay a bit more from a vendor you can trust, every time. Experience is proving that there are vendors you can't trust.
