DaHoooooley Lives again

You did an excellent job with the rebuild Missy. Nice to follow all your posts and in the end see a vid of the results. You are an asset to this community.

Thanks troops

Glad to help out where I can.

Hope all the tech stuff does someone else some good along the way.

I am just very happy to have this project done before the rains come.
Northwest Oregon in the winter is not a real pleasant place to have to work outside.

Unless of course your a duck. ):h

The DaHoooley wont fit through the door into the one inside stall that I have in the out building.

Fat Butt trucks, anyway :smile5:

Can I just say, Suuueeeeeeeeeeettttttt! Now just to help everyone out who is or may have to some day rebuild their beloved truck, you need pictures and directions on pulling every accessory and bolt out in order all the way through pulling the motor. Then in the reverse order please. Then it can be added as a sticky. LOL. Just kidding. Let us know how it goes on it's maiden voyage (1st long trip). Thanks for all the info. Hopefully it will help others not to make many mistakes.

Pulling every bolt along the way and the proper and most colorful metafores too ???? ):h

Will keep Y'all informed on the maiden voyage.

Went down this morning and rolled the beast over to the grass and dumped the Water from the cooling system and refilled with GREEEEEEEEEN Juice :smile5:

Just need to bolt the front driveline back in now and all will be done.

Trying to find some new insulators for the Glow Plug connectors.
Need to install new insulators and tighten the connectors a tad so they are tight.

Here are a couple pix taken this morning of Missy and her truck.

Excellent work, Robyn.

Let me know where you find those Glow Plug Connectors. The Chevy dealerships had NO idea what I was talking about. I ended up using some regular connectors from NAPA, but I'm going to have to swap those out before too long.

-Rob :)

Thanks David

The only issue is the dumb A$$ that decided to install an 8 foot door on that side instead of a 10 footer ????????????? (ME)

Everything including a Hummer will go through. Nope a fat butt truck wont make it.

TaHoe

Still looking for the things.

There are supposed to be some ceramic ones but I sure can't find them to save by tooshy.

Missy

Here is a pix of the inside of the shop stall.
We were moving some things in or out ???? can't remember.

The slab is 15' wide and 30' long. The door on the slab is an 8 foot and the other is a 12 footer.

Damn, sure wish I had installed a 10 footer on the shop stall. "What was I thinking"

I have always owned a fat butt truck too. ???????????? ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

How much wider is the truck than the door, can't miss by much? Can you just open the door, pull the bottom sections of track, and fit it in?

I've really enjoyed your threads about the rebuild. I've been thinking about looking for a 6.5 4 door or extended cab longbed, would prefer a dually. At work we run a Dodge 5.9 Cummins regular cab dually and we could use more cab space, not to mention I just don't like the truck much. Seeing what a nice looking truck you have makes me want to find one.

Casing is just too tight to get it in. IIRC it lacks about an inch. The tracks are inside the width of the casing some.

Just a blunder on my part when I had that barn put up.
Originally that building was going to be my truck shop.

Then came along a youngster who wanted a horse, then came the horse stable and arena and a need for a place to store hay, sawdust and other stuff.

I managed to save that 15X30 foot spot and get concrete on it so I would have a place to work in the winter if need be.

Sadly its about 100Yds from the main house and the machine shop and tools.
I do have 2 400 watt Metal Halide lights in there that do a pretty good job of lighting things up.

Unfortunately just in back of where the pix was shot is the hay storage deck and we stack in up to 30 tons of hay for the winter.

Just to the right of the camera is the sawdust storage bin that hold up to 10 units of sawdust to bed horse stalls.

No grinding, welding or other "HOT" activities can take place in that building.

I could replace the door panels with 10 footers and just move the track and reconstruct the casing..

I would need to move or replace one 4x6 upright thats set in the dirt but that would not be too hard.

Just $$$$$$$$$$$$$ ya know

Fatt Butt truck is the only small rig that wont fit. Burbs and the explorer all fit fine.

Oh well such is life

The DaHoooley rigs are out there. I found this one listed on Auto trader back in June 2007

Been sitting in a lot about 50 miles south of here and nobody was looking at it much.

That 6.5 badge seemed to scare them off. Hmmmmm

Was able to wrangle a real deal with the lot too.

They must have figured I was a real sucker. Letum think what they want.

I smiled all the way home. I am still smileing too even after having to rebuild the engine.

Now I know what I have.

Had a little work done on the tranny last year and it is OK so I should be set for a while.

Keep an eye out to Auto trader and Craigs list.

These rigs do pop up from time to time.

Finding such a doll is a chance find though.

That a beauty.

Price is good too.

I paid $8000 for mine and was glad to get it. Now that was a couple years ago so prices have dropped a tad.

NY truck, Hmmmm wonder if it has a bunch of rust hiding somewhere??

I would love to see that rig up close an personal

This rig has the same farings and boards as mine does too.
In looking at the pics of this rig, it may have been done by the same upfitter that did mine.

Same wheels, boards, similar style of paint scheme, interior decore is similar.

My truck originally came from NM so ya never know.

I cant find any emblems or such telling who did the work so its a guess.

I was just thinking Missy that you could call those guys. Maybe with your VIN they could figure out if they built it. Pretty similar paint scheme, that's for sure.

Just get some momentum going and drive it in, it will fit!

The Ebay listing - what a great looking truck. Not too far from me, about 8 1/2 hours to Buffalo. I'm not sure I really want all the TV and VCR stuff, but the price is decent and a big factor is the new IP, assuming it was a decent quality one. Maybe I'll give the guy a call.

If your looking for a nice DaHoooley that thing is definately a Puff.

They just dont come much nicer.

Even at the buy it now price you could afford to put work in an engine or tranny within a year or so and still be way ahead of the curve.

At the prices of new trucks 9K is a steal

I am delighted with mine even after having to build a fresh engine.

Now I know what I have.

And its Yellow too. (Big grins)

If I was in the market for a truck O would certainly give that O'l girl a good looking at.

I went out this Morning and bolted the front drive shaft back on my beast.

Last fall I had found a water leak coming in either around the corner seam on the RH rear of the cab or around the rear window. ??????

Sealed it all well and dried the truck out all summer.

Got the Tool tray, seat belt retractor and the kick strip all buttoned back up now.

All I have left is to do a little repair on the glow plug harness ends as a few were a bit too loose to my likeing.

Pretty well near perfect now

Take a close look and make sure it is still glued in. I finally chased a leak down and found it was completely unglued from the 3rd brake light around to the bottom on one side and coming loose on the vertical of the other side.
