DaHoooooley Lives again

Sah-weeet! Nice job, Robyn! Thanks for sharing the vid.. I love the look and the sound. There just ain't nothing like a 6.5TD growl...

Thanks troops.

A great many hours of lamenting over this beast has finally come to a happy ending.

The video was a quicky though. I grabbed one of my Pro cams and shot it. The wiggles a couple times (Not very pro I might add) were me waving at SIS who was in the truck to do something and even with a shoulder mount cam I let it move some.

I do wedding vids and other stuff like that as a sideline.

This video was shot with a new Panasonic DVC20P that I bought as a cheap backup cam.

Great little unit but lacks the "Glass" up front of my high end Canon

Still does real good though.

Sound system on the thing picks up all the little things you dont hear in person.

The truck has a Banks exhaust on it that came with the rig when I bought it.
Also came with the Turbo Master too.

Had a B-D chip but I swapped that out and got a fresh one from Bill Heath.

The B-D chip was an early one me thinks as the the thing would defuel as soon as the boost stayed over 8 PSI for very long.

The Heath chip is perfect. Im sure Bills new chip may be a tad better but I am very happy with this one.

No plans to change anything any time soon.

I am rolling over thoughts of adding a set of dual 6" stacks to the rig.

Thinking about mounting the stacks to a 6" box tube mounted to the front of the bed.
Using the long tube as a "Sound Box" with a couple baffles and then brining the exhaust pipe up and through the bed into the box.

I am still mulling this over. The truck is very quiet now even when your into the thing hard.

Having stacks would really make that thing look cool though.

Thanks again for all the +++++ Votes.

Now if only I could cook

Never learned too much about the Fem jobs, just always ended up in the garage with a wrench in my hand.

I can order a mean Pizza though, just dont ask me to cook it ):h

The truck has 3 antenae on top
A boomerang TV antenae
A cellular phone one and a tall CB whip.

The truck was originally purchased in New Mexico and outfited by what looks to be by the style "Starcraft"

I found the original sales receipt in the owners manual all tucked away.

The truck came with the following

Top of the line GMC trim package in the silver paint scheme
6.5 TD 4L80, 4.10 gears. 10,000 GVW rating.
All the normal top end creature comforts
Custom paint
Custom interior
CB radio
TV set with Tape player
Driving lights
Custom boards and fairings
Banks Exhaust
Heath Turbo master
Spray in Bed liner
Alcoa ??? aluminum wheels
Hideaway gooseneck in bed hitch
5th wheel hitch. Not with the truck when I got it but the holes are still in the bed.

The as delivered total was right at $75000.00 (1995 $$$$$)

Sure was great to get such a lovely truck for $8k even though I have had to do some work on it.

TV set and player were missing (good) CB is still there.

The dash AC vents had been thrashed but I found a complete dash from a wreck that was the right color and was perfect for $20. :D

Installed all the new dash stuff including the coffee cup holder, Yeah they broke that too. Got a perfect one with the dash for that $20

All in all it was a great buy for the money.

Got a few scratches so I dont mind using it. If I had paid the $75K thing I would not want to drive it let alone haul anything or get it dirty.

Thanks again

Good stuff

MGW congrats. Thanks for sharing your build with us. Sounds glorious and looks to be super SMOOTH. I can't wait to get into my own build-up. I will be sure and share it also.

BTW your camera has some good mics. Good vid quality too. Thumbs up.

As for the 'stacks'... IF you like showing off like those Cummins or P-stroke boys then, go ahead, to each her/his own.

I'd like to think the 6.5 crowd is more of a distinguished bunch. A bit of an underdog and not so 'gawdy'.

But that's just me.:D

Carry on, carry on.

MGW, when your engine started up I thought it was mine!! There was no sound for such a long time and I got away from my computer for a minute then your engine fired off!!Kind of gave me chills!! I could almost feel the pickup rock when your throttle was blipped a few times. It does sound great, I love the rattle rattle rattle sound they make. Good job, Ted

The one that will send chills down your spine is our 94 Burb on a cold morning

OMG that thing sounds like a very unhappy powerstroke. Gawd that thing rattles hard when lit off at very cold temps.

Hmmmm Gawdy is good

I dont know what I am going to do just yet. Stacks cost $$$$$$$$$$ to get good ones and the sucker will be noisy with them big O'l chimney's right back of the cab.

Probably leave the nice (Paid for) Banks muffler right where it is.

This engine sounds and feels just about like the one that it replaced.

The core value of what the engine can do and does is the Injection pump, injectors and the programing in the control chip.

This engine has a couple differences that could effect performance but to what degree ???? is anyones guess.

The block was bored .5mm OS (.020')
Has "T" precups instead of the Diamond cups in the heads. (Old ones were cracked badly)

All other parameters are the same as what came off the rig 4 months ago.

Truck sounds great! And its spotless too! very nice!
little off topic but how do you like them little mirrors? My new 97 has them and I couldnt imagine towing my 38 foot horse trailer with them

There are a set of addon mirrors that slip over the trucks stock ones and fastens on with a thumb screw.
These set out about 12" more on a side. They work fine.

I took them off to wash the rig and stuck them behind the back seat.

I would love a set of custom extendable mirrors but $$$$$$$$$$$$$ ya know.
