Got up early this morning and got the engine out on the slab and ready to stuff it back into the truck.

New oil cooler lines installed and ready to go.

A good friend came over about 9:30 and we got onto it about 10:30

All went about as good as any 6 and a half install goes with the usual wiggle here and yiggle there to get things back lined up.

All the tranny bolts went in very well and with the whole area CLEAN and the bolts and threads all checked there were Zero issues.

The Only Caviat was the two top bell housing bolts that are always a bitch anyway and then add the stud tops and the little brackets to hold the fuel lines and the tranny breather hose. AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGG

My fingers had a cramp after worrying those suckers in there.
The clown that thought that abortion up should have been tarred and feathered.

All six of the Bell housing bolts on this truck have the stud tops, ??????

Only 3 use the stud tops sooooooo ?????? Never know what the deal is on that. Engine was replaced with a 97 crate engine some time after the sale but after the warranty was up.
Who or where it was done is a guess at best, No dealer records with Ma general on such.

Took some pix during the process.

The little yale 1 ton hoist hanging on the skid steer.
Some pix of the engine ready to go in and one of the little yellow creature sitting back home where it should be.

Will work tomorrow on getting the wiring, accessories and things bolted back onto the engine.

Not sure on a fireoff time. Monday will see me back on the road for the day in the big truck and dont really know what time will be available for screwing with the DaHooooley during the week.

Very happy to see the engine back in the truck again.

Hardest part is finished and the rest is just putz along work.

Have a new radiator ready to go in too so things should be COOOOOOOOOOL:thumbsup:

Yea i dont care how you do it. those bolts are a PITA on any SBC truck. Just have to be patient......and have small hands.......and a few beers

Hey there
The truck you have is exactly what I'm looking for here in New Zealand. They are Like Rocking Horse S**T though. Do you have pics of the front end hubs back end and rear guards etc as the one I'm looking at here in Christchurch is the same deal 4x4 except not dually so If I buy it I would want to do a Dually conversion on it (with genuine gear).

Hey, good day neighbourg
Hope you'll find what you're looking for.

I will try to find back some adresses from Auckland if that can help you ;)

Craig

I will snap some pix tomorrow of the hubs on the front. The rear axles are a bit norrower to allow the dually wheels.

The front end has a bolt on spacer that allows the use of the drop center wheels.

Yes the loooooooooooooooong extension will work once the bolt is in the hole
These bolts are less of an issue when the engine is clean and the stuff is lubed a little.

The problem part is getting the little nuts back on the stud top that allows the fuel lines to mount.
My 94 Burb was such an A$$ H**LE that I tossed the bracket that bolted to the back of the bellhousing and cut the lines off.
I then barbed the ends of the fuel lines and ran heavy hose under the drivers floor pan and up the firewall to the engine bay and then across behind the Hydrobooster to the engine.
I installed some couplers where the lines crossed the VC and then onto the fuel handler and the return line.

Clean easy and far less of a PITA than the other crap.

The factory stuff was easy wehn the body was not there. Yeah right. loads of help that is.

Wonder if the fool who dreamed that abortion up ever gave any thoughts to the poor little Blonde that was gonna have to rip it apart some day. ?????????????/

The Burb was easy to lift the engine in and out, the DaHoooooley was tighter and we had to remove the RH side front engine mount pad so we had enough room to get the tranny and the engine to separate and come apart.

Laster troops

Wish you everything going fine missy.
We just finish putting back a 141 in my father in law rig, in replacement of his 506 whihch have a cracked #8 cylinder wall.
After a good laugh yesterday, everything has been finished this morning and she's now purring like a herd of kitten.

Wish you the same.

The red and black rig is a 91 Burb with a 350 gasser.
I have an 87 Diesel Burb thats gonna give the 91 a transplant "He he he he "

Yesssssssssss

The 91 is a cherry with an interior thats like show room new

I was going to ask about the red and black truck too. I love those body style Subs, don't see many anymore that aren't vented thru the floorboard and rockers.

That motor sure is yellow.

It's nice to see an older body style sub in such great shape. :D

Saw what was left of one of that body style at the junkyard today. it was so rotted the tailgate was welded shut. poor truck. :frown5:

Poor missy is showing us pictures of her new engine...and all we can think about is the old chevy in the background!! hahah. Ill admit, i was wondering the same thing. I always loved the red and black two tone on those trucks. Always one of my favorites.

Yea and as for a long extension.....it works to take them off, and to finish snugging them up, but the hardest part seems to be getting those first few threads started

Find a five year old little kid and stuff his A$$ under the hood with instructions on what to do with the bolts.

A got the bolts down in from the top ok and got them tight. It was the small flange nuts that hold the extra crap on the stud top that got a tad intense on my patience.

Too bad that MA General did not install two acess plugs (Rubber) in the firewall so those bolts could be easily reached.

Two two inch diameter ports in the firewall would allow those bolts to be removed in a matter of a couple minutes without your hands looking like you were involved in a 5 alarm cat fight.

Out here in the Pacific NW there are loads of older trucks and Burbs that have pristine bodies.

The 91 (Black and Red) was found on craigs list.

The fellow adverstised it for sale or trade. "Will consider Tools"
I traded him a small plasma cutter that I had purchased some years before in a closeout sale at the welding warehouse.

Figure it cost me about $1200 for the Burb.

I have installed new plugs, fuel filter, a used distributor and a new module and a fuel pump relay.
The rig runs perfect. Does use a little oil (valve guides likely as it will "Puff" if let idle a long time)

Here are some Pix to drool over. :smile5:

227K on the clock, a fresh 700R4 just months before I got the rig. Guys wife said she could not drive the truck any more as the paint on the hood was peeling a little and
"What would people think"

OMG I can't deal with this sort of reasoning. She bought a new little SUV of some sort and her Old man is shaking his head. She has commanded him to get rid of the junker.

Missy sits wagging her tail with delight.

The Cruise control even works right, can ya believe that stuff, OK

My Plan is to (In time) replace the 350 with a 6.2 and a lovely near new Banks turbo setup I found.

OH BTW the 91 has warn hubs too YESSSSS my kind of 4x4

I owned 2 of those both with 6.2s. Awesome trucks. You know I was scoping out just using 6.5 manifolds and turbo setup but I don't think it will work in that bodystyle if it's a/c equipped. It "looks" like the turbo would collide with the a/c box unless maybe used a 6.5 turbo setup off a van. Probably similar to the Banks. won't be an issue for the CUCV. No a/c

Hi Missy
Thanks for the time taken to snap the pic's, It will give me a good handle on the job at hand.
All the Best.
