DaHooooley Up from the ashes

I did the racks on the 8V71 by the BOOK.

All went well, but bet me, I had the emergency shut down flap all checked out and standing by just in case things got wierd :thumbsup:

Doing the racks on the 2 stroke Detroits is just a matter of following the procedure to the letter.

Then once it's all done everything must move freely without any binding.

Well the Beotch is all in and buttoned up.

New battery cables did not get here as they should have. (Parts guy at the GM store ordered the wrong one for the RH side) :eek:

Anyway
The only stuff left is to get the batteries in and hooked up, unscrew the old glow plugs (keeping junk out now) spin up the engine to get fuel to the injectors then screw in the new plugs, hook up the wires and lite the fire.

May I ask why you have the fsd mounted in the engine bay? Are you asking for problems?

Best of luck on the first fire. Bet you can't wait to get the DaHoooley back on the road.

Keep those air pockets out of the cooling system, cap off, let it 'burp' itself. Get a fan for the front of the RAD to aid in temp control, and to keep from asphyxiating yourself!

Dig the CAT yellow...:thumbsup:

The truck came with the cooler and PMD up top just where you see it.
I have the long cable to remote and will move it down on the inside of the front splash/skid pan soon.

The oil cooler lines leaked a lot before and the area was an oily swamp down there so I left it alone.

Once the initial fireoff is complete and I will remote the little sucker.

Currently there is a DTECH PMD on the cooler and I will likely scrounge up another of those manifold mount units to have sitting there with a spare PMD on it.
A failure on a dark and stormy night would find a quick swap of the plug a very welcome thing.

OH YEAH BUDDY the top mount is not a great place for sure but was better than getting dripped all over with oil :eek:

Special cables??

Nope not special, I just wanted the factory cables back on the thing, especially the one that goes to the starter.

This cable has a special end terminal on the starter end that has a tab that engages a notch in the solenoid that aligns it and also the thing is designed to fit in the tight space down there and allow easy access to the nut on the solenoid.

I am sort of anal this way.

I like factory stuff in some places to keep things neat and spiffy. :thumbsup:

I also like factory fasteners wherever possible to keep the thing looking stock.

My fan shroud has several bolts that have been replaces with off the shelf stuff with washers on them :eek:

In a while I will head off to the U Pullit yard and scrounge up some of the original bolts off a wreck so I can make things look proper again.

Another area is the 3 cable clamps that hold the crossover battery cable to the top of the fan shroud, mine are all broken and the cable was tied on the zip ties. :eek:

Looks tacky that way. Those items may take a while to find or I may have to use some other type of retaining clip to keep the area clean.

May use some plastic coated metal "Loop straps" and a plastic barb button to hold them on.

Does not take much but needs to be clean and secure as well as not leave a sharpy sticking up to tear your hide off while your under the hood.

I have found over the years that keeping stuff secure, clean and neat will generally prevent issues later out on the road. (Where ya dont need them)

I have basically the same cooler you do, sorry no pics, but what I did
was get a tap to fit PMD mounting screws, and drill and tap the cooler
to mount the existing PMD right next to the brand new D-tech - remoted
them to the bumper nostril, if one fails (unlikely) I can just switch the wire
over to the other
 
The best choice would be welding cable with totally soldered copper ends.
Use a top terminal (marine type) and eleminate the side terminal mess.

BUTTTTTTTTT the factory cables look neat and clean and work fairly well for many years.
