Brought Home my Dually Today

The black box is the pmd the PO has mounted on a piece of metal. If I was closer I'd take you up on that seat.

I use to drive a 94 tow truck, that the owner put a brand new seat in. You must have sat 4 inches higher, and it made the truck feel brand new, just having a new firm, unripped seat.

This seat was so fagged out before, I deflated a football, stuffed it underneath, and then inflated it to give the lift again.

People don't seem to restore seats as much as anything else. Even a used seat few years old is already starting to be 'fagged out'.

Too bad there wasn't cheaper options to have a seat rebuilt, or too bad we all don't have neighbors like 95bktd.

Interesting I found an insurance card in it from the PO and ran the vin on it thru compine and it didn't come up with anything. I'll have to compare the card with the vin on the dash.

The compnine decoder won't work if you mistake o's for zeros from my experence with it.I took the vin for my 93 off the title and it didn't distinguish any difference between zeros and o's because of the print type. All my other cars and trucks worked.
Just looked in my 95 and 97 gm manuals. The 10th digit is the year. 95 is "S" , 97 is "V". I guess that would make 96 "T" or "U".

Are there o's or are they all zeroes? I use to do inspections years back and can't remember myself. I would think there are no oh's and all zero's, but common logic and GM don't always equal the same thing.

94's and 95's were kind of goofy as far as OBD went. A lot of them used the OBD II connector, but were still OBD I. It's called OBD 1.5. So looking at the DLC might not tell him anything, either. What is the 10th digit of the VIN?? That will be the determinant. 1995 will be an S, 1996 will be a T.

probably long wheelbase

or

long girthy white boat

basically GM acknowledging that this pickup is big enough that they smashed some wine on the bumber before sending her off because they felt guilty about not doing so on that big ol land yacht!

also, i was too busy looking at the dirty floor to notice that stick protruding from the floor! Congrats on getting a 5 speed!

Whenever you get the chance, since yours was built in 95, but is a 96, I was wondering if it would be a internal or external slave cylinder?

once again, congrats on the purchase!

Well I'm pretty sure it is a 96. Scored a few tools while I was going thru it. Best find was a complete Lisle torx scoket set about 10-12 pieces. Also another good find was the airbags. It had a flatbed on it which is supposed to be there somewhere under the snow and even if I don't want the flatbed I need to go find it. I'm hoping the air comp for the airbags is mounted to it. The reason it is all apart is it was stolen and when it was towed it was stuck in the mud really bad and all that stuff got ripped off trying to pull it out. I don't think it was attached very well. Also notice the orange valve covers which means it might have a somewhat low mileage engine in it. So far $s invested 0

Are orange valve covers an indication of a crate motor? I ask cause my 98 has orange covers and a vin check makes no mention of a new motor.

I don't think it has the dual tstats. My 96 DD has duals and it looks diff. But it doesn't look the same as my 94s either ???

I could be wrong on that. I'm a newby to GM diesels, and diesels in general. I recently bought a 94 that had smacked a tree and in that incident the stock coolant crossover was broken. I found a dual thermo crossover from a newer rig to replace my broken crossover. Going by the shape of the upper radiator hose and what I could see of the housing in your pics is why I said it was a dual thermo housing. It definately is not the same as the old one on my 94, the radiator hose is configured totally different.

Anyway you look at it, you made quite a good find there.

Dualleys have several different width rear axles. Could be the wide axle.

I'm not positive where they measure from. My 97 c&c has the narrow rear end. It's about the same width, with tires, as the cab. car-part.com has all the different listings for rear ends. Supprising how many there is. If it came with a regular dually box it should be the wide axle. Also the frame rails are different on a cab & chassis. They are straight and narrower than std box. They are a standard width so that all flatbeds and utility boxes will fit all brands.

So I did a little checking on the tstat crossover it is a single tstat but it is diff than my 94 1/2 ton. the one on my dually the tstat installs from the backside and my 94 installs from the topside. so I guess there are 3 crossovers used by oem

if its a c and c the fuel tank would be behind the axle btwn the frame rails as well. and the standard truck that came with bed they are mounted on the driver side right behind the cab
