Bad Grinding in gear.??? $$$$ ????

If that mileage is accurate it would be worth the price just to cut the motor out of it. Of course ya'll know my high opinion of used car dealers...

back in school I was in a rock band and we found an abandoned bread truck or frito lays truck or whatever that had no engine so we towed it and put a Ford 400 in it and it was perfect for carrying all of the huge speakers and equipment.

I would like that if 6.5!... It just looks hot inside!

On a side note, I must be getting old because I'm using and enjoying the A/C too...

No progress on my truck today...... Worked all day though. Hopefully tomorrow. I'm moving into a new house next weekend, so I've made a trip while I have this box truck. I got the swingset in without taking it apart, however it took 2 different neighbors help, as they came a running when they saw the back half of a swingset hanging out and probably heard me cursing up a storm, lol...

Thing weighs 1500 less than my truck, my truck feels way more powerful.

No. Cracked flexplate is not uncommon on a GM and snowplowing probably contributed to it more than anything. I've always said commercial snowplowing is blood money and beats the shit out of the truck. I realize some people have to put bread on the table in the winter but if you don't need to do it, I don't think it's worth it. JMO

I always wanted to plow with a cabover. Couple landscrapers around here have Mitsubishi Fuso dumps with 4wd and big plows. It must be awesome to look down on the plow like that. I can't even see my plow. Not a big Mitsu fan, but Isuzus are OK, I've actually worked in some Hinos (Toyota owned and built) and they were awesome trucks. No 4wd that I know of though.

Plowing with a cabover is like plowing in a blizzard. All the time. I expected it exactally like you said, great visual. But the snow comes up off the plow and right into the windshield. Alot worse than a conventional cab truck. Wet snow is fine, but powder snow, forget it. Id rather be in an open cab tractor.

As for the cabovers themselves, we have 4 hinos, and one 07' isuzu. I cant say enough good things about the hinos. All i ever do to the trucks are general maintnence and brakes. Parts are pricey but they rarely need them anyways. As for our isuzu...bought it new in 07 (W5500) and have regreted it ever since. Biggest POS we have ever owned, no contest. New turbo, new PCM, 4 sets of new injectors, all with only 15K miles. And the problem still isnt solved. Long story, but the truck is terrible, would never buy another.

Anyways, back to matt's issue. I had a 350 sbc that under load sounded exactally like a rod knock. Wouldnt hear it i park, only in gear. I even took it to the local shop who said the same thing. Well, pulled the inspection cover and you could see where the flexplate was rubbing on the bellhousing. Flexplate wasnt cracked but the motor mounts were shot which caused the engine block to sag and torque so far as to let the plate rub on the housing. Hope you have a quick easy fix!! and enjoy the a/c with this weather!!

Not to mention cabovers handle like shit in bad weather. No thanks. I had a French made Mack Midliner. I hated it. worst POS I ever owned and it drove and rode like dog balls. Only thing good was any idiot could drive it but it was horrible in bad weather.

Same reason we buy all automatic trucks now. Sad

Yeah, I'll never buy another fuel truck with a stick unless the price is way to good to refuse. Auto's are the way to go with today's generation of non drivin' steering wheel grabbers.

Oil trucks or any other kind of local delievery/work truck (as opposed to over-the-road) there is just too much shifting. All you do is pedal all day long. Wears you out, bad for the legs (especially if you use the clutch) and hard on the shoulders. I had muscle problems in my shoulder blades from shifting, actually had to start doing special exercises to keep the sholder blade muscles from hurting.
Automatics are the way to go for most circumstances, now that they've finally made them durable enough for heavy duty. Even a lot of the over-the-road stuff is auto now, seen those cool paddle shifters on the wheel?

I've got serious pain in my elbow from shifting. I have to go for a shot of cortisone...:mad2:
This is getting off topic though. Maybe these posts could be moved and merged with MAtts cabover thread in OT.

The bolts just loosened up. Flexplate was fine. No additional damage was done.

The Napa Donuts worked beautifully.

Just finished swapping tools from the boxtruck back to my rig.

Its a funny feeling when I hop in my dually and it feels like a zippy tiny thing compared to the boxtruck.

My truck goes 20 miles FARTHER or 18 gallons of fuel, then this boxtruck went 27 gallons. WTF.

My truck weights 1500lbs more, feels WAY stronger of an engine than this fairly new E-350 Super Duty Gasser. Which is a gas pig. I almost felt in stealth mode though, it was pretty quiet, and nobody knew me as I was roaming the streets. Another Penske truck did wave at me though. :)

Feels good to get back in the rig though felt great to hear that diesel and feel the low-end power. I'm gonna be really cramped. I think I'll have to hunt around for a cheap deal on a 12-16' box truck. Just to have for a backup. Drove over 100 miles in that thing today :( $.79 / mile)

The guys wants 100 for the work. Had to torch the crossover, separate the tranny back, and work in there. By the time I got home he even had my starter in (and brace) and was working on the xover waiting for the donuts. He left when truck was all buttoned up and I was testdriving.

I'm more than happy to pay 100 bux for that service (at my house btw). Just too bad he couldn't have done it Saturday, would have saved me another bean on the rental. Oh well...
