87 land yacht, long term project

Called the painter today, says he should be done in the next 2 weeks. He's doing the work in his off time and charging me less than any of the local places were going to so the extra time is not a huge concern for me right now.

Dash will be done about the same time as well. Looks like I need to step on the np205 t-case rebuild and finish attaching the nv4500/np205 to the engine so all 3 parts can be dropped right in soon as the truck gets back.

Got a few pics putting 2 of the doors up. I have to cut the bottom 2" off the doors to clear the new rocker panel armor. Front door is trimmed, back is not. Planning to get the remaining doors mounted/cut tomorrow.

I have the extra paint to touch them up after the cuts, but thinking of running linex on the bottom 4ish inches. Getting the floorboards done anyways

Doors are hanging and cut now. Need to weld in a new bottom panel to seal them back up and finish adjusting the doors.

Been test fitting and adjusting the engine/trans mounts for most of the day. Finally got the location settled and the crossmembers moved to where they need to be. Will need to modify the engine mounts and the trans mount crossmember.

transmission crossmember is now sitting on top of the bottom frame rails, raised the trans about an inch bringing it closer to level. Still have a lean towards the rear of the truck with the drivetrain at around 5-10 degrees. Planning to get the engine/trans mounting finished first so the front clip can be installed soon after.

Yes finally haha. Kinda difficult to make big progress when your working 80hrs a week though lol.going back to night shift starting Monday so I'll be able to get some stuff done in the afternoon before work now.

Goal over the weekend is to secure the engine and trans.

Didn't make as much progress as I wanted but getting there. Motor mounts are now test fitted, tomorrow should have them finished and the engine secured. Next weekend I'm off so the goal is to have the engine bay closed up.

Pic of the engine mounts

Need to pull them back out to finish welding them up, and get more bolts/washers to secure everything.

Little update from the weekend's progress. Motor mounts are done and the engine is finally secured. Fenders have had their first trimming, need to take some more material off to get the proper fit but they are loosely mounted now.

Ran into some issues with the hydroboost and the turbo, same clearance issue that Leroy ran into with his suburban. Clearance issue was fixed by 'flipping' the hydroboost system. Basicly unbolt the brake master cylinder and rotate it 180 degrees, then do the same with the firewall mounting plate. Also installed the clutch/brake pedal assembly as well.

Was getting ready to install the better turbo when I noticed that the exhaust T3 flange on the manifold had a hairline crack in it. Welding cast iron doesn't usually work so started searching for replacements, seems to be a somewhat common issue with the Izusu 4BD2T and the stock turbo. Thankfully it's a cheap replacement, got it ordered today without issue so should be here by next weekend.

AC condenser and the stock 4 core radiator are resting in place, need to order the new rubbers for their mounts. Plenty of clearance even with the engine sitting fairly far forward to keep my trans/t-case shifters closer to the stock location. Trans shifter is about 4-6" back, t-case should be just about where it originally was. The old sm465 (4 speed) has the shifter almost at the front of the transmission top cover, the new nv4500 (5 speed) has the shifter close to the back, just before the overdrive.

Thanks. Between the rebuild, engine/trans swap, and shortening the wheelbase it's taken me almost a year and a half so far, ouch lol.

Made more progress over the past 2 weeks. Hood installed and the front fenders trimmed to clear the new rockers

Fuel lines installed up to the filters/FRB-5 lift pump (from Leroy). Truck currently has a 30 micron pre-filter and a 5 micron (if I remember right could be finer) secondary before the lift pump, along with the stock filter up on the engine. I will probably remove secondary filter and run a fine filter up on the engine. Will let me install a pre-filter on the 05 duramax I got last week. Fuel lines are insulated, wanting to run alternative fuels at a later date so figured I'd go ahead and take care of this step while the lines were out.

Power steering reservoir mounted, need to install the steering box to finish the plumbing. HVAC installed as well.

Turbo is installed as well. Running without the spacer because I was having to hack off too much of the firewall to clear the 4" downpipe.

Fuel tank and exhaust are now ordered. Going with a diamond eye 4" from Leroy and a 40 gallon suburban fuel tank. I Have another tank to run in the bed after that gets cut down and installed. Tried selling the flatbed locally but was getting low balled big time so looks like I'll be cutting into it soon.
