6.5L TD Motorhome repair/repower

Well, here's the latest on this project. There isn't much new news. I've been emailing Matt at Peninsular for several weeks without any replies. Last week I called him. He said they are still waiting for some parts and he would check it out and get back to me with more details.

Here it is a week later and still no return call or emails with more information.

I'm beginning to get nervous about maybe getting stung and loosing my deposit of $7500. Now that summer is all but over, I guess there will be no camping trips for us, this season! At least I won't have to winterize it, as it still is.

Peninsular was providing the P400 engine with 18:1 pistons, custom headers with a rear mount turbo plus other goodies I'd have to go back and look at the list. It's been so long, I forget. They are to ship it to my local installer, who is also waiting and sitting on my deposit too.

Right. So what exactly are they waiting for? 2 months, you could have built the turbo system yourself, by hand.

Anticipation is a killer . . .

IIRC, mine was at least a month (maybe three) from the time I sent in the deposit to the request for final payment.

Hang in there . . .

I just got word from Peninsular, My engine is ready to ship, as soon as I send them the final payment. I ordered it in July and it's finally done and ready to ship.

P-400, 18:1 pistons, custom oil pan, rear mounted turbo with custom stainless headers, new transmission, heavy duty extra capacity Donaldson air filter system, high flow/high pop injectors (sposed to be New Bosch).

Excuses for the delay.
1. waiting for the engine to arrive from AM General
2. waiting for the transmission to build the turbo mount
3. waiting for the pistons
4. waiting for the air filter system
5. waiting for the injectors. (they arrived yesterday, Bosch was backordered since May):skep:

Thats great news, and I'm looking forward to seeing pics! When you say rear mounted turbo, is it going to be a GM6, or an aftermarket?

Matt

Update

I received an email from Peninsular and the installer.

It appears that the engine assembly made it here, but the second pallet that has the transmission and maybe some other parts, didn't arrive with the engine pallet. It seems lost at this point. We'll have to wait some more. :WTF:

I'm wondering what else can go wrong with this build? I'm hoping for smooth sailing from here on. :skep:

The transmission was found and delivered to my installer, BUT, it was damaged and leaking trans fluid out. :mad2:

I haven't seen the damage yet. It was shipped to my installer. When I do, I'll get pix.

The transmission is a new 2014 4L85E. Basically OEM. I just thought as long as I'm adding HP and want reliability, I should replace the transmission too. I'm also doing brakes and shocks. All being done when/where the repower takes place.

Speaking of replacing parts at this same time. I'm replacing many bolt on items on the engine. While it's out is a good time. Power steering pump, alternator and the vacuum pump. The starter is easy enough to get at anytime.

Does anybody know which is the best brand to go with on the vacuum pump? GM OEM? I was going to delete it, but found it uses vac for the heater/defrost. I'll just plug the turbo line.

When my trans takes a dump I want to do the same thing. Where did you get yours?

If you only need vacuum for the A/C, why not go with an electric add on pump. They can be setup to only run when needed, and used to be commonplace on early motorhomes and semis.
