Today I’m hoping to accomplish the muffler mounting on each side.Last night before heading in I did install a Napa 1049 extra capacity oil filter.It holds almost a full liter of oil.This filter is probably the largest you can install on olds V8 engines.The wix number is 51049.

The picture attached shows the difference between the Napa 1049,the 1258 which is one of the 1978 oil filters that were used on those engines and the Napa gold 1522 in later years is another filter that was common.As you can see there’s a huge difference in capacity.I’ll definitely use the 1049 in the future.

This evening I finally installed one muffler under the running board.I think it looks pretty good.I used a couple hangers I got from Amazon which did the trick and I added a support bar from the muffler clamp to the transfer case crossmember area to keep the muffler from swaying back and forth.

Tomorrow I hope to get the driver side running board and muffler into position.

This morning after getting the engine running I have to say the exhaust pulses from the tip is a steady even flow and not like before with the stock mufflers this truck had in the beginning.It was almost like an engine that was misfiring.That type of thing.Both mufflers must have been restricted with excess soot or collapsed inside.I’m not sure.In the past both sides were not steady like it is now.

There is a huge difference in the way it sounds at this point.Its definitely 200% better.Only one side has been completed so far.I was hoping to have both sides done but on Monday I’ll continue onward with it.

Here’s a couple pictures showing the flex pipe and stainless elbow but I’m going to use band clamps when they arrive from Amazon and it’ll look better also.The outside muffler clamp will be taken off.I also have some thermal heat sleeve coming from amazon also to wrap the flexpipe.

Here’s a couple pictures showing the flex pipe and stainless elbow but I’m going to use band clamps when they arrive from Amazon and it’ll look better also.The outside muffler clamp will be taken off.I also have some thermal heat sleeve coming from amazon also to wrap the flexpipe.

Thanks Marty for posting that.I used the same band clamps to attach the exhaust tip and elbow upon each muffler and it’s definitely a clean look overall.

Today I decided to get the driver side running board and muffler in place rather than wait until Monday.Both running boards still need to be reinforced in a couple areas but it’s coming together pretty good at this point.I’ll upload a video of how it runs tomorrow.

That’s greatI’m not sure if Napa in my area has those or not but I bought the evil energy brand which has good reviews.A video will be uploaded this evening.I’m pretty eager myself to hear how it runs and sounds…lol.

Here is the latest video folks.I think overall it sounds pretty good.There are no exhaust leaks from any of the connections from what I can tell.It definitely has a much smoother pulse from each exhaust tip.No sputtering like it was in past years.
